why do other trans people have such cool life storiesI didn't try on my mom's clothes I didn't hang out with the girls at school I didn't play with makeup I didn't "act like a girl"I didn't hate my name I didn't cross dress I didn't let myself look inwards I didn't get told "we always suspected" when I came outI didn't know I just felt sad and wrong and I didn't know why.I was hollow and my emotions didn't make senseevery relationship I tried went sour because I didn't feel anything if I didn't get that time during covid to really think, I might never have figured it out. I might have gone my entire life as a sad but ok most of the time, guyit always hurts when I read or hear some trans person's journey as they recount every instance where it was "clearly a sign" and they were just born in the wrong body and they were basically a girl anyway and...because of this, I just never related to these few trans people I saw in the public eye. I thought of it as this rare disorder that was for therapists to diagnoseit took me a while to realize it wasn't about who I had been. It was about who I wanted to become

I'm she/they in the way that I want people to address me in a fem way but use gender neutral language through most of the conversation, sprinkling in the occasional fem pronoun like affirming seasoning in the gender sauce

I gotta say, I'm really disappointed in stux and the universeodon admin when I first joined mastodon, I was amazed that we could have a community that would take a bottom up approach to removing bigotry. this was the first platform that I could be on and *know* that I wouldn't be bombarded by hatethe system of distributed instances that all need to keep their acts clean lest they be defederated, has created an open environment that should not tolerate questionable content. basically, if you want to present your content to the rest of the fediverse, you need your content to be presentable I'm frankly disappointed that *on the fedi* I'm being told by cis, white, middle to upper class, men that the moderation is too strong. this is supposed to be a community where we can *all* feel **safe** and comfortable to be social. this is not the place for free speech absolutism or some fantasy of an online wild west, and I think any admin who wants that should be defederated full stop. the whole point of this damn platform was to remove centralization and curate a comfortable environment. if a person here really wants a monolithic platform with virtually no moderation, they can go back to the birdsite.

@supernovae you do a good job at moderating and running your instance. the fact that we haven't had to send you any reports is good proof of that. I'm sorry I didn't @ mention you, I probably should have brought you in sooner what I'm disappointed about is that you are going to federate with Facebook in spite of the raw danger it poses to the fediverse. I'm disappointed that you wanted to remove the federated reporting because it's such a valuable tool for keeping this a clean space where we can all feel comfortable I sincerely doubt you have ever experienced discrimination based on your gender or race and I'm disappointed that you aren't listening to us who have. Facebook and corporate social media made a place where I felt unsafe and I've been given no assurance that that won't happen with their new project. I don't think we should give Facebook any benefit of the doubt, and I think I speak for a lot of people here when I say that. as the admin of a large instance, there should be a large level of transparency and input from users in a decision as important as federating with Facebook. I think you and especially @stux should run polls to see if your users really want to federate with Facebook

@stux @obviousdwest I don't trust it, because no matter what, if an instance federates with it, the user's content on that instance will be available to meta and copies will exist on their server as things are federated over. even if they don't scrape it, everything new will be available to them. considering what Facebook does with data, that can't be a good thing
