I gotta say, I'm really disappointed in stux and the universeodon admin when I first joined mastodon, I was amazed that we could have a community that would take a bottom up approach to removing bigotry. this was the first platform that I could be on and *know* that I wouldn't be bombarded by hatethe system of distributed instances that all need to keep their acts clean lest they be defederated, has created an open environment that should not tolerate questionable content. basically, if you want to present your content to the rest of the fediverse, you need your content to be presentable I'm frankly disappointed that *on the fedi* I'm being told by cis, white, middle to upper class, men that the moderation is too strong. this is supposed to be a community where we can *all* feel **safe** and comfortable to be social. this is not the place for free speech absolutism or some fantasy of an online wild west, and I think any admin who wants that should be defederated full stop. the whole point of this damn platform was to remove centralization and curate a comfortable environment. if a person here really wants a monolithic platform with virtually no moderation, they can go back to the birdsite.

@ivy What are you disappointed about?People on universeodon and connecting with us seem to really enjoy it.I looked at our mod reports, and we've never received a report form you or the other instances that chose to defederate with us because I had conversations with other admins.I've never once said moderation is too strong. I've said what we need is people to have agency. You can have safety and you can have agency.Mastodon has an HOA problem.But, worst of all. i thought I was talking with other admins to try and resolve the problem in a safe space. It turns out that space wasn't a safe space and someone took screenshots of what I was saying and shared them.You can't claim to make safe spaces and violate trust like that and I'm disappointed.I'm here. I work in the open. I'm disappointed so many people talk about me or talk about universeodon when no one has asked me anything.It's unfortunate this got out of hand and its unfortunate its now about the my sex or skin.

@supernovae you do a good job at moderating and running your instance. the fact that we haven't had to send you any reports is good proof of that. I'm sorry I didn't @ mention you, I probably should have brought you in sooner what I'm disappointed about is that you are going to federate with Facebook in spite of the raw danger it poses to the fediverse. I'm disappointed that you wanted to remove the federated reporting because it's such a valuable tool for keeping this a clean space where we can all feel comfortable I sincerely doubt you have ever experienced discrimination based on your gender or race and I'm disappointed that you aren't listening to us who have. Facebook and corporate social media made a place where I felt unsafe and I've been given no assurance that that won't happen with their new project. I don't think we should give Facebook any benefit of the doubt, and I think I speak for a lot of people here when I say that. as the admin of a large instance, there should be a large level of transparency and input from users in a decision as important as federating with Facebook. I think you and especially @stux should run polls to see if your users really want to federate with Facebook

@ivy yes, i think some admins impose their moderation to strictly.It's a valid opinion.But, i respect the people who need/want that.I can sitll talk about the HOA problem mastodon has in general.The conversation that started this all was held on `server-admins` on the official mastodon server and it's unfortunate those conversations were taking out of context and shared with people not in there.Which makes me question why anyone would trust admins who do that.The discussion was about giving BIPOC people agency, so they could be themselves. So they could post about things on topic - but more importantly post to their audience.A lot move to bluesky and many faced new issues there. Rumor is they're setting up a calckey instance and will be defederated at first.I hope they're successful and I'll stand by preserving their voice while advocating for my users and their agency too.

@ivy @supernovae Huh! Wow!This is kinda weird :blobcatgiggle: A few min ago i was thinking about putting out a poll today, to see what people around the fedi wantKeep in mind that polls on Masto are not super reliable but i think it does give a bit of a picutre in the general sense

@stux @supernovae fair enough, I do think it would be better to do ranked choices and a no opinion just to give people more wiggle room to think about it
