Love when companies decide they need to do their part to create even more super expensive junkyard filler with parts that are not only precious limited materials but also horrible for the environment to throw away. 🙄🤦 Can't wait until humanity has moved past this asinine startup era, if we survive it.

@user8e8f87c @ubuntu @gnome i would seriously love ANYTHING that would let me escape the Google/Apple duopoly on phones. I'm not doing quantum computing on my mobile, i just want to have a little computer in my pocket that texts, calls, browses, & offers software solutions such as maps, transit, Fedi, etc.

@user8e8f87c @ubuntu @gnome might even consider a basic small digital camera for photography & video tbh. I'm just so tired of every smidgen of data I'm capable of unknowingly leaking being sucked up by the company that makes my cell phone or the apps that run on it lol. 🙄

I was also very interested in Librem 14, but same issue, wasn't able to spend 1500 on a new laptop at the time and inherited another modern laptop before then.

@flowerpot @grammargirl when i had it last year I didn't test positive until I'd had symptoms for 3 days either! It was so odd bc my partner had taken a test some days prior bc his kiddo was sick and taking a test just in case, and kiddo tested negative but my partner tested positive! He got really sick a few days after he tested. It's so wild how even presumably the same strain (since we live together & such) can affect people quite differently. 😕

@skobkin @ErikUden yes, many large instances have policies which state explicitly that they defederate from instances who knowingly host hate speech & do nothing about it. Threads is one such instance, so yes, it's absurd how many instances who have such rules are making an exception for Threads. Including mastodon.social, which includes harassment, hate speech, & misinformation in its reasons for limiting many other instances. Why should Threads be an exception? Because it's "large"? Who cares?

Yeah it means you get to host an instance where you let people be nazis & pedos. It also means I can just an instance that doesn't allow my users' information to be shared with nazis & pedos. That's the magic. If you choose to hang out with nazis & pedophiles, no one is obligated to hang out with YOU either, bc they don't want to associate with nazis & pedos LOL

@MisterMoo @aral @RosePuckey christ have people never heard of things like "pattern recognition," "history repeating itself," or just the completely reasonable act of "making predictions based on real-world events"???The overall trend with the FOSS world lately has fucking sucked. Org after org is gradually falling into the same predatory, money-grubbing, privacy-invading, user-exploiting bullshit the big companies do. Supposedly "for survival." So many liberals who have been operating for the last 15 years under the assumption that "protesting" was the very last stage of political dissatisfaction & a last resort are now looking around after protesting for 2 Saturdays (in impressive numbers, granted), seeing nothing change, & going "huh? Well now what? That can't NOT work!! Didn't someone see the funny sign I made?!"There is nothing in the sensible liberal playbook that covers what the actual next steps are.
