@strypey Duckspeak is the most significant, Newspeak was merely the tactics.Did you know that Orwell was modelling the Ministry of Truth on BBC, given his disdain from personal experience?

@futurebird Point out to them how arbitrary language is.Show them that there is a world beyond the Latin Alphabet.Point out that some articulate symbol needed to be created beyond what was previously known - if not how and why such developments were borrowed (this is particularly so concerning numbers). If you read the prelude to The Miraculous Birth of Language, GB Shaws ranty takedown of the Latin Alphabet and articularion of Shavian alphabet is a curio (though Quickscript more universal)

@strypey I know what you mean.I recall a Channel 4 series of shorts where they went through the multiple stages of early 20th Century Hollywood hair styling. It was fascinating the technical stages and procedures involved.Im sure you remember how the switch to higher definition television sets impacted the makeup industry. All those older pragmatic makeup effects made for 4k resolution were instantly rendered awkward. Its maybe worth doing a deep dive on that time period.

@futurebird I remember having a long chat with a milk delivery man in the middle of the night before he started doing deliveries on those electric floats - real end of an era kind of chat.Im not sure right wingers can get all nostalgic about that one, they were the ones who dropped that efficient and ecologically sustainable activity because the new plethora of supermarkets were undercutting milk prices to increase footfall.I hope you have noticed Germany's right-to-repair movement growing?

@strypey Last week I gave some hard truths to some students as a presenter at a conference. I could have given them utopia and talked about me and cool shit.Instead I talked about systems and abuses of those who seek to govern the information space. I discussed the contrast of positive radicalization that I experienced from culture and creative ideas. And so my ego still feels a little fragile, as such truths (no matter how expressed) contain friction. So thanks for reiterating the necessity

@strypey Nothing to see here:> Regulation Minister David Seymour said he was comfortable with the process followed by officials because there were few worthwhile ideas in the nearly 23,000 submissions received by the ministry.>> “I was aware of the ministry’s approach to analysing the submissions, which filtered out spurious submissions fuelled by social-media campaigns, and allowed substantive ideas to be considered carefully,” he told Newsroom.1/N

@strypey Nothing to see here:> “I’ve always said the point of submissions is the ideas they produce. In this consultation, there just weren’t that many. Most of the submissions were either ‘totally off topic’ or didn’t provide compelling reasons to alter the bill’s core principles.”>> However, experts and the opposition have raised concerns that soliciting but then not reading submissions could erode faith in democratic processes.2/N

@strypey Do you know this anomaly?:> Baarle-Nassau is a municipality and town in the southern Netherlands, located in the province of North Brabant. It had a population of 6,899 in 2019. The town is the site of a complicated borderline between Belgium and the Netherlands: it encloses 22 small exclaves of the Belgian town Baarle-Hertog, of which the two largest contain seven counter-enclaves of Baarle-Nassau, and the main body of Belgium contains another. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baarle-Nassau #exclaves

@strypey Im not old enough but I adored falling into that world when I was a teenager. If it wasnt for a genuine interest in the Goons and cocktail music I doubt my father in law would be quite so tolerant of me @denisbloodnok

@strypey I once managed to get much needed money running a protest against some wasteful initiative.Id have some protest posters (rather artistic) and mention how much it cost to photocopy and then ask them if they would like one.Given Id already struck up a rapour, they seemed more than happy to more than compensate me for my time.
