@futurebird I just wish there were longer options. There are people who spam without tags US domestic politics, and I'd like to find a middle ground between enduring and muting forever.

@stux As a digression, "public squares"' usually have rules that are biased toward bourgeois. You can't drink or eat (because that's money from the restaurants; bourgeois have living rooms to where invite people)You can't sell your items from carts (competition for stores; possibility of reselling items stolen by servants)You can't shout opinions or hold discourse groups (rich people have newspapers, schools, and can read)In that sense Musk's definition is honest, if not popular.

@HMLivy @elstiko Racism-by-camera predates computers (from the start of consumer colour photography), but computers didn't solve it. Only the past few years have algorithms been able to make both blacks and whites look good on screen without choosing one or the other (they always chose white).

@StopTheSweepsPDX @jgg @petergleick As I recall, it wasn't NATO membership, but agreement with EU.Later joining NATO became impossible as NATO doesn't take members with disputed areas such as Crimea. And Russia has publicly talked with several mouths about restoring lands belonging to Soviet Union, or even to Russian Empire. Flying planes over those areas is rather standard. Understandable if no land wants to face that alone.

@drgeraint @StopTheSweepsPDX @jgg @petergleick Stating reasons for war isn't the same as accepting them as justified.

@drgeraint Rather horrible history class if it's just a list of events without relations explained.

@franckraisch @jonasgraphie @EUCommission Cameras, cellphones etc. have a relatively short life-span. Thus implementing them with the same cord isn't a big job, particularly as the cords have been for years two-part (eg. there's the usb-cable, and then there's the actual charger). The wall-sockets are a different beast altogether: the sockets are usually changed only during renovations, meaning the task is one of generations. And STILL we have the europlug with relatively good acceptance.

@stux This is a good time to remind the world what Jack "King" Kirby (1917 - 1994) had to say about far-right ideas. It's these old-fashioned thoughts from the Greatest Generation that we should remember and fully apply to our daily lives, even today.

@stux Maybe they were balancing the camera very precariously while doing a timed shot, and were afraid it might fall down?

@stux May I ask are the bills in line with the previous ones, or/and can you see peaks that can be read as being due to outside/AI scrabbing? Also hoping you get the bills covered. That's an important thing you're doing.

@stux Border control was meant to be a temporal measurement during WW1, but somehow it stuck around :/

@kaia Can only imagine how horrible Luxemburg is: I'm living area that I would assume is less than the Finnish median, and I still want to tear my hair out now and again.(This should be a bigger public interest. Instead, even "tuned" motorcycles waking up the whole street during night-time is seen as acceptable.)

@jwildeboer @ricci Do I read this right that Bluesky is about 12x bigger? And I assume we're counting active users?

@ricci @jwildeboer Thank you for explaining this to me. As might be evident from my profile, I'm not technically more that passingly literate.

@fox @rolle I'm pretty sure crypto is understood to be valuable, and treated as such. After all, a law that specifies only donations in euros seem rather easy to circumvent. You could for example just donate diamonds or gold.I'm not going to hypothesise how server location affects things, but it seems like a bit of a gray spot -- which seems like it might be read as against you should the thing ever rise up officially.

@evamik @kaia To me the term came out of nowhere half a year ago. Wasn't too attractive, as for some reason I associate arab desserts with unbearable sweetness. And chocolate is pretty darn sweet to begin with.
