It annoys me how people say "the coding interview is bad, but it might be the best we can do"No, it is not. If it were, we would have equivalents in medicine, law, and especially for business executives.The coding interview is a technical cargo cult.

I am reading "Introduction to Functional Programming" By Richard Bird and Philip Wadler, 1988I have reached the section on list comprehensions. Such a powerful concept. And their syntax is almost the same as the one used in Python

#FreeWiritingI still have some issues with getting tired due to covid from last year. I think I need to force myself to take more breaks. @aeisenberg @futurebird When I was a kid I had a TI home computer. The BASIC interpreter would tell you if there was a syntax error or a wrong command. My cousin and I decided that one meant yes and the other no.We spent like an hour asking it if there were aliens on earth, if we were going to be rich, if we could get super powers from chemicals potions. We gasped so many times.It is cute when you are first graders doing this

@futurebird In reality there is no need to push for learning English because economic forces do it alone. If you don't know English you are sidelined to the lowest paying and most dangerous jobs.The people who don't learn English are usually the ones who don't have the time to do it because they are working too many hours. The ones working the two or three janitor jobs.

@futurebird There is also this dynamic that when people are together speaking the old country language, others assume they don't speak English. The majority do, though. The bulk of immigrants do speak English. I know very few who don't.
