@feld Ah, got it. According to @paul it sounds like that's a major limiting issue as to whether other ActivityPub instances are usable with Ivory or not (they're setup to just expect Mastodon's INT id).…which doesn't make sense if your instance is also using FlakeIDs. 🤦🏻‍♂️

@feld @Moon My wife has 200+ tabs open in Chrome on her iPhone. And she complains to me about why the battery life on her phone is abysmal…

@feld They're attempting to do this because (a) these microbes already represent a looming threat from thawing of previously frozen permafrosts and (b) they want to develop methods to identify these before they can get loose.https://www.mdpi.com/1999-4915/15/2/564

@feld So…supposedly Jay Valentine (the person behind Omega4America or whatever the f*** it is) provided a copy of his software to some Wisconsin group to search the SVRS/WEC. It appears that even Ron Heuer of the Thomas More Society think that’s bunk because they don’t understand the database.UUnsubstantiated Claims concerning Voter DataFascinating. Who’d have thunk it? :blobrofl:My apologies. I’ll stop with this. This was just a hilarious rabbit hole I hadn’t yet heard from the conspiracists.

@feld I mean he's been pushing this crap since 2020 (https://jayvalentine.com/2020/03/08/vmware-kubernetes-epic-fail-in-flight/).You'd think if he wanted to generate any credible rep from it he'd have at least made some PoCs in the last three years even if no one bought into his snake-oil, heh.

@feld Not sure if you've followed any of the rest of the discussion, but it would appear they're claiming YT is using client-side JS spyware to detect if ad-blockers are running. Not to say YT couldn't just migrate to your proposed solution (which might make sense in the long run as it'd alert YT to DNS-blocking attempts as well, yes?).
