And also in NL a new #covid wave has started - see the wastewater surveillance data in this logarithmic graph. If things continue at this rate, wave 13 will reach the height of the previous wave (wave 12) by mid-to-end-of September.https://mstdn.social/@roelgrif/110905179500597242

@cstross @Annalee @kittylyst When I left academia (after several years as a post-doc) my first industry job wanted a copy of my PhD diploma.Sure, I’ll photocopy this nearly A2-sized thing (with any available photocopier only being A3-sized), with a big wax seal attached to it. It’s in Latin. Good luck with it.

@quixoticgeek @th Even better than the time I was stuck at Schiphol Airport railway station, between 03:00 and 03:00 on a last Sunday in October…(The hands were stationary for an hour! Aaaah!)

@foone Can you get a bright enough scene so you can stop down the camera to get a big enough depth-of-field?

@foone Given that I have a cursèd cable that is USB-A on one side and simultaneously micro-USB and Lightning on the other (no, not a Cerberus-style multi-head: somebody intersected a micro-USB and an 8-pin in CAD and thought “that’ll do, ship it”), why not both (simultaneously)?

@foone Psssh, given PoE and EoP, at home we’ve rationalised and now have PoP and EoE, depending on the order of plugging the various doodads in.

@foone We know you’re never gonna give it up, we know you’re never gonna let us down when it comes to wildly wacky Dooms, DDaaS, etcetera. You’re not gonna make us cry, we’re not gonna say goodbye.

@foone The JUICE spacecraft is currently a planet (I think - I’d need to confirm its current orbit is indeed heliocentric) (we’ve imaged it during its gravity assists), and will become a moon later, and then become a moon-moon. Sadly, we won’t be able to image it at that point, or it would’ve become a planet again!

@jon *And* completely managed to forget about axle loads in NL, despite having meant to use these for DE <> NL as well…(Still can’t get over the single-axle Jacobs thing. Feels like such a “I have a hammer! Therefore *that*’s a nail and *that*’s a nail and *that*’s a nail and […]”)

@jon I can entirely understand the attraction of only having to gauge-change a bit over a quarter of the axles compared to conventional bogies.(BRB, I foresee a passive tilting explainer rabbit hole)

@jon Talgo’s own material on https://www.talgo.com/en/technological-principles is entirely unsatisfactory. Lots of claim, no explanation whatsoever. My engineering BS sense is tingling.

@jon The latter is true for any Jakobs bogie, no? Doesn’t need to be a single-axle for that (plus more beneficial coupled-body dynamics at higher speeds, IIRC)
