Perhaps it's my corner of the fedi, but undoubtedly the most frequent source of discourse on here is about #FediBlock and whether it's good or bad.That there's so much discourse around it, and that so much of it comes from people with different marginalizations should perhaps signal that maybe micro-tyrants dictating who is good and bad and others subscribing to their views (automatically via lists, semi-manually via who gets named on that hashtag) is not a the kind of society we want.

For the last few years, I've been having the recurring argument that cryptocurrencies shouldn't be supported by lefties regardless of their environmental effects or that many are rife with scams. The biggest argument for them was circumventing embargoes and sanctions. Now that Gaza is under siege, I have not seen a single person or group who is confirmed there asking for cryptocurrency for the seemingly obvious reasons of a) fucked internet, b) no power, and c) when water and food are scarce, what good is a bitscoins?

The utter uselessness of slogans when both Israel supports and Hamas supporters are using the word "decolonization" to describe the atrocities both sides commit.Maybe if we focused on action instead of the most nuanced, zeitgeisty, updated words we might accomplish a whole lot more.

Slightly related, but the spectre of nazism has absolutely poisoned discourse where we have people calling Israeli/Palestinians nazis along with Russians/Ukranians. And no atrocity can exist on its own and simply be evil. It's only bad if it can be rhetorically compared to the nazis of the 1930s in Germany.

Person at the office complaining how someone came in with covid. This same person feels sick, but since they tested negative, they're staying.
