Pretty funny - after 90% of the engineers have left, Elon has got the remaining into the office and had them draw out the basic high level about how Twitter mobile apps work, then tweeted it. Great due diligence. Many of these services don’t have any staff left on them.

Does anybody know if Mastodon as a community (lol I know) has a position on instances where the members have to pay to join? I was thinking of setting up an instance with a small fee, which has 24/7 support etc etc - basically so you know your account will always be available to use, migrate elsewhere etc.

So the answer is.. a few of the popular instances are already paid membership and haven’t been defederated. I’m in two minds about it, I reckon there’s scope for a paid tech Mastodon instance, something like $4 a month and you could ensure it is long term sustainable. But I don’t know if there’s enough demand, would need a few thousand active users.
