@RL_Dane @sotolf @benjaminhollon @al3x I'm letting it happen organically at this point. Deep diving into technical rabbit holes is my favourite thing to do, historically at the expense of what I should be doing instead, so part of being an adult for me has been holding back that urge at certain times until it happens on its own from pure necessity. When I do deep dive into vim, it will save me tons of time, not make me lose a day of work 😁

@benjaminhollon @al3x @RL_Dane The best kind! Wish I could join but I'm many hours deep into what promises to be a 30+ hour shift. Pay day is so close I can taste it lol

@benjaminhollon @al3x @RL_Dane πŸ˜‚Don't worry. This isn't a labour violation or anything, I'm self employed. One thing nobody ever tells you about turning your hobby into your job is that you don't necessarily know when to switch off.I'm enjoying it immensely for the time being, lol.

Feel like enraging yourself with the latest NY Times Opinion piece but don't want to pay for the privilege (I wish I was clever enough to say that pun was intended)? Uh, yeah, me neither... Woah. Here's a thing... ever spent far too long messing around with these three numbers, trying to get your pointing device to do something predictable?Device Accel Constant Deceleration (267):1.000000Device Accel Adaptive Deceleration (268):1.000000Device Accel Velocity Scaling (269):1.000000

Apparently Velocity Scaling has a "correct" value. It's not a multiplier like you first assume (and immediately realize once you change it) when you see the world "scaling."It's meant to compensate for different devices' polling rates, and the expected value is [polling rate]/8000, and the result in my case was going from my Wacom constantly feeling "not quite right" and "kinda acceleration-y" to "this is my pencil. there are many like it but this one is mine."http://510x.se/notes/posts/Changing_mouse_acceleration_in_Debian_and_Linux_in_general/

@m0xee This parameter doesn't accept a 0 or negatives. Not really sure, but glad I figured it out. Mine was also hella jumpy.

Cam someone explain to me why every wifi network around this house is divided into these three chunks like this? Back in the day I remember seeing a bunch of little single channel spikes. The interference in this house is absolutely nuts. Worst uptime I've ever experienced. Bluetooth is fucked too. Idk what's going on but it's insanely janky.

So I'm on one of those "unlimited" data plans, where when you use up your alotted however many GB, instead of getting cut off and having to either go without, or purchase more data at an exorbitant rate, it slows down to a degree (512 kbps) that you either have to *effectively* go without, or purchase more data at an exorbitant rate.Trying to function this way is... educational, from a web developer's perspective...

...I tried to accept an email money transfer, so I clicked the link, which presented me with the logos of some popular banks, and I clicked on mine (CIBC). When you do that, it loads a simple page with a dropdown menu containing an option for web banking, or the mobile banking app, and then a confirm button. It literally took over a minute to load that page on my severely throttled 4G connection.Wtf is going on on this web page that it takes over a minute to load a logo, background img...

@futurebird I got a text message while stuck in traffic the other day, and Android Auto read it out loud, followed by "Do you want to reply?" I say "yes", and it replies "Playing Yes on Spotify" and then switches from the album I was half way into to like, the worst possible choice of Yes song πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈ To be fair, this has never happened before or since, but brand new failure modes are the only constant when it comes to Google Assistant (*especially* when Android Auto is involved)

@futurebird I would have been less annoyed if she at least chose to play Fragile. I am not afraid to admit that I am a Yes normie. Not really my favourite band, but Fragile is a decent album lol

Does anyone have any favourite literature on #parser and/or #compiler design/implementation? It's probably well above my pay grade, but it's always been an interest, and I suddenly feel like diving in deeper. My instinct is to try and write something resembling a parser without reading too much about "the right way" first, and then doing some actual reading and finding out what I should have done instead, just because that's how I roll.

I've been thinking lately about taking up writing. Not in any serious way; just because I always wanted to, and never really did. But I was just reading 'Rabbit, Run' and thinking "how could anyone ever hope to improve their writing after having read writing this good?" I don't truly believe that it's not worth trying if you'll never be as good as John Updike; my real point is that Rabbit, Run is very good so far. I'm only 55 pages in, but have already been impressed by several passages.

@m0xee It's my first time reading any Updike at all. Spotted it at Value Village and the title and cover sparked my interest, so it was just one of those sight-unseen things that beckoned my to grab it. I'm very glad I did.
