@djsumdog What I’m reading from this is that you felt personally slighted by Wikipedia, in one case, because you posted content deemed to be misinformation, were warned, and then responded by bringing an even more controversial figure up as a defense. In another case, you attempted to improve an article with a maintenance template (“written like an advertisement”) and then removed the template, which is fair enough. The editing guidelines do say to “Be bold,” but as /wiki/Wikipedia:Be_bold says, “[…]it is important not to feel insulted if your changes are reverted[…]”. Additionally, the guidelines for removal of maintenance templates, under “When not to remove” (/wiki/Help:Maintenance_template_removal#When_not_to_remove) state that one of the circumstances in which you should not remove a maintenance template is when “There is ongoing activity or discussion related to the template issue”, which is probably exactly why that occured, because that’s usually how that particular template gets there. You chose to take it personally, which appears to be a pattern. As far as “alt-left” is concerned, I didn’t really find a clear answer to my question from your blog, but my guess is that it’s what the alt-right call people who don’t with them.

@tyil @mcc As a Gentoo user, you know better than anyone that Gentoo is not for everyone, particularly people who don’t want to spend time/energy installing their OS so much as using it.

@tyil @mcc I’m not implying that you spent hours and hours installing Gentoo, or implying that Gentoo doesn’t have its merits, my point is that “install Gentoo” is 1. not necessarily trivial, especially when, 2. the problem you’re trying to solve is “annoying notification on lock screen of otherwise functional system in daily active daily use”

@shaun Please tell me you have the document in your profile image. This is all I can find and it’s paywalled 🥲 Although I do assume that one line is probably a single diamond in extensive legalese rough

@futurebird You may find this of interest: "Structural Changes in Media and Attitude Polarization: Examining the Contributions of TV News Before and After the Telecommunications Act of 1996"Link: https://sci-hub.st/10.1093/ijpor/edv012I'm of the opinion that the profit motive is poison to reliable, impartial news, without solid protections/regulations in place (the Fairness Doctrine comes to mind).

@barrygoldman1 @futurebird Interesting. Care to share an example? I'm sure one day when they're the perfect solution to a problem, I'll realize the potential, but I have to say I have not given sets a lot of thought up to now, although I also didn't give Python a fair shake up until very recently.

@barrygoldman1 @futurebird You need a backup system, stat! (this is definitely one of those “do as I say; not as I do” moments, or more like “not as I don’t do” I guess, lol)

The fact that the founder tried to pull that “modelling agencies need more diversity” shit feels like she threw a rock in a moment of insanity, then tried to hide her hand when she realized how fucked she was going to be.

Why am I having the worst experience trying to get Wine running on Pop_OS right now? I don’t think I’m as comfortable with Ubuntu derivatives as I once was. This is pretty much painless (well, as painless as Wine gets at least) on Fedora.

This is exactly the kind of "impossible is a state of mind" thinking that appeals to me. He wants to make DIY semiconductors, and nothing will stop him. Also just some really great intuitive explanations of a lot of concepts / implementation details. I mean, it's far from home made in his parents house, but still, he's got a lot of gear, and some very helpful sponsors, but I'm all for it.

@BlippyTheWonderSlug @PaulDitz Criticizing Biden is not the same as supporting Trump. Genocide is genocide; it’s really that simple.

@tommorris Mac Mini form factor? Surprisingly modern HP Elitedesks can be had for surprisingly reasonable prices. I was surprised to find them for even better than local prices on Amazon (not my favourite place, but just passing on the info), and while I haven't personally ordered one from there, a good friend of mine did a few weeks ago for his new office, and he seems pretty happy with the purchase. The "Tiny" models are a larger than a Mac Mini, but not by enough to matter imho. They're pretty slick little things.

Jesus, ffmpeg is nucking futs. I don’t use it super often, but I’m more impressed with it every time I do.
