@mike: This happens when people are forced to use Linux instead of them embracing it. The rest of us value the fact that we can manually recover a broken OS without having to wipe it clean and reinstall it.

@BrodieOnLinux I recommend pipenv (installed with pipx) to manage per-project virtual environments and requirements file (pipfile & lock). If you add asdf or pyenv to the mix, then pipenv can control the python version for each virtual environment as well.

@linuxtldr If you're into #Podman, have a look at '#Quadlet' as well - it comes integrated with Podman. Quadlet allow containers/pods, networks and volumes to be setup and managed using #SystemD. The configuration is a simple extension of systemd unit files. An interesting application of this is to run self-hosted cloud services like CalibreWeb (ebooks) or Wallabag (pocket alt) for a single user, or multiple users if your desktop can be left on.https://www.redhat.com/sysadmin/quadlet-podman

I just published a #Rust binary crate on #crates.io. It got 17 downloads within seconds of the upload. Anybody has any idea where this might be going?

@Revertron Hope they don't forget libc. Imagine having a crap ton of crates that are all useless because they took RIIR too seriously!

@futurebird On the contrary, you could get hopelessly lost at sea (MH370 anyone?) with no hopes of being spotted by radar or optics. It's not possible to rescue you in the deep sea, even if they find you (how to dock under pressure?). And it could crush your body into pulp in an instant (which wont happen in space). It's not just the technical risk - the ways in which the ocean can kill you is truly horrifying, compared to space.

@futurebird Stochastic processes are not appreciated enough. Nobody explains why concepts like ensemble and ergodicity matter. You get the feeling that it has something very profound to convey, but can't quite place it. Personally, even multivariate and vector calculus never appeared as cryptic.

I believe I'm suffering from #YouTube #Anxiety Disorder (YAD). Every time I comment somewhere (even on mastodon), I feel like I'm walking on eggshells, careful not to offend the AI overlords. I also feel the urge to comeback later and ensure that the comment hasn't been censored randomly. The interesting part is that despite the snowflake #censorship #algorithms, inflammatory speech on YouTube is growing faster than ever. What exactly are they trying to achieve anyway? More #Enshittification?

@toiletpaper @paul I'm happy with all the the effort to replace the corporate social media on the fediverse. Video is still a problem though. It needs massive storage and bandwidth. That's why YT is still going so strong. Hope there will be a viable alternative soon.

@aral Considering the pace at which things are going, I believe that Panama, Greenland and Canada should seriously consider their future safety. I won't put it pass those 'muppets' to actually do it, no matter how little sense it makes.
