It's been more than a year and a half since I stumbled across #SubversionRPG and backed it on Kickstarter, although I knew even then that I was unlikely to ever actually play it.The hardcover arrived today and it's a hefty keepsake I'm looking forward to skimming through, if only to remember what captured my attention back then, but I'm mainly glad to have helped bring it into existence because I really love its premise and setting.#TTRPG https://loudpoet.com/2023/03/11/shadowrun-subverted-a-first-look-at-subversion-rpg/

@futurebird I lean towards ON Earth, mainly because there's so much in the oceans we haven't seen (and plenty of weird we already have), while anything extraterrestrial is going to be weird by default. Unless it's more humans, which might arguably be the weirdest thing...?

It's disappointing to see so many NEW newsletters on Substack despite their leadership making it very clear in public statements and consistent actions what they're really about.@davetroy does a great job of framing things, along with links to multiple sources where Substack's leaders and investors explicitly state their beliefs and goals.Every online platform comes with some compromises, but very few are as actively bad and unnecessary to tolerate as Substack.https://america2.news/the-substack-dilemma-how-creators-are-inadvertently-fueling-americas-failure/

@futurebird I'm 20 pages into it after my wife recommended it with zero context. It gets off to an interesting start, but the lack of chapters is challenging, makes me want to find time I can read it straight through.

@futurebird Agree with (and honestly love) all of this, but a cockroach flew at me once when I was a kid and I didn't know they could do that and I've been traumatized ever since! While I'm not "scared" of them anymore, I definitely do not like seeing them (in the north nor the south), but I'm going to take this to heart. 🤔😬👍🏽

I didn't know about Kagi's Small Web feature until I noticed a referral from it today. Not sure how I made it in their index but it seems like a cool initiative, similar to powRSS, which has been sending a few visits/week since I was added there. Serendipity FTW!Coincidentally, I've started messing around with regular Kagi for search and am intrigued. Paying for a search tool seems odd at first, but it seems to be where everything online is heading now. 🫤https://blog.kagi.com/small-web

Just realized yesterday's blog post was my 2,000th post since 2003!That's primarily a few years on Blogspot before moving to WordPress, and imports from a few side projects and experiments with other platforms over the years, like Vox and Posterous.I don't think it includes Google+, but I can't remember if they offered an export option before killing it?It also doesn't include LiveJournal (which somehow still lives on!), nor my time on Compuserve or Geocities, which is lost forever.

I was a very active blogger in the early days, mostly personal in the beginning before comics and publishing and media became my primary focus at different times.Twitter eventually took over as my primary platform, and while I mostly enjoyed the first 10 years, it definitely killed my blog for several years.Ironically, "newsletters" helped revive it as I (thankfully) "archived" every issue there before finally making it my primary platform again, as it always should have been.

Nowadays, my blog is my hub once again, with Mastodon and LinkedIn as my main satellites.I reluctantly check in on Bluesky now and then because comics and libraries have settled there, but I don't love it.I still push all of my blog posts to Tumblr, too, but almost no one I used to follow there is still active, and I mostly use it to see cool 40k art.The internet doesn't have to be a dumpster fire, but it requires more intentional use nowadays to make it work for you.#SocialReboot

RE: https://loudpoet.com/2025/12/04/five-things-december-4-2025/Among the changes I made to my site this week, I finally got ActivityPub working and you can now follow the blog itself here, too: @fedifeed (Pretty sure Jetpack was the problem because a few other things are magically working since I removed it.)Not sure what engagement looks like, but I think replies to its posts will become comments on my blog, too?

Any idea what this means?I don't see anything in the ActivityPub plugin to approve individual interactions, and it doesn't appear to be integrated with the regular Comments feature.#FediTips #ActivityPub #WordPress
