Think of the hundreds of years of #invention, then rendered into #technology, that enabled #scientists of all sorts, that kept spinning the wheel of #innovation to get to where we are today.I can sit here on my fat ass, dry as a bone, drinking #coffee listening live, to educated people explain what that little stalk-like thingy is at the bottom of the Midatlantic Ridge. I am humbled and amazed.What a wonderful world we live in, if we can just choose to hang on to it.

Swamp Turtle vs Filamentous Algae! Who shall win? Probably the Algae. It’s a very simple #robot with just an #arduino, H-bridge, solar panel and two motors. Construction and software took about 2 hours. I’m hoping it chops up the algae a bit so the fish can see what the Sun looks like ;)

Swamp Turtle showed promise roaming the pond and breaking up the algae, but there were numerous issues, as expected. I’m taking it apart to build version-2. In my experience it is always better to go #UglyEarly in a design-analysis cycle (not in bars). #Fail is the learning elixir designers seek. So here we go….#robot #arduino

Swamp Turtle-2 is up and running! Improvements include a lipo battery with balancer, analog bus voltage monitoring, higher torque motors and a more stable platform. I already see some code changes I need to make 😵Will it wake up tomorrow? We shall see. #robot #arduino

Latest #robot in sea trials. An old 12v trolling motor provides propulsion. A #RaspberryPi pico is always-on and runs the basics, sensors, h-bridges and such. An RPi4 will be the main autonomy hub to enable detailed mapping and surveys and such. But for now I can just push #mqtt buttons in #HomeAssistant and move it around. I built it almost totally out of scrap and epoxy. What a delightful waste of time! 😜P. S. Note the #lego crew on the bridge.
