@fitheach Well that is a blow. Brussels sprouts are traditionally an essential component of Christmas dinner, making it a national act of penance.I suggest whittling sprouts out of cabbages. If you want more than one sprout per cabbage, the layers can be held together with decorative cocktail sticks.

@fitheach I started baking them drizzled in olive oil this year, very nice with toasted almonds. But that made them too tasty, it felt wrong somehow.Things are looking bad here in Western New York state - there's far less choice than usual in the shops. One big store even removed two double-sided lines of food department shelving and just kind of nudged the rest in an attempt to focus on "the nice wide aisles".

@fitheach hmm, did a search. They're harvested between September and November. Should be buckets and buckets of them right now. NYS has 60 acres for sprouts, I guess they're not that popular 😂

@fitheach I'm hoping this time next year I'll be living in Scotland, and it will be all neeps & tatties 😅

@fitheach criminy, never heard of a switch crashing before. I've reset the modem and the router many times, but my (8 port) switch has been quietly ticking along for a decade.

@fitheach I was shocked to find that all the Bluetooth problems between my phone and my car went away when I changed the settings in the phone to go back to an older version of the Bluetooth protocol.Seriously, the ability to negotiate to the latest shared version should have been baked in - we've been doing that for other protocols for decades.

@fitheach Listening to anything through the car stereo would cut out after ~16 minutes, which was a pain when using GPS! Also very laggy when changing tracks, and almost never restarted the music after taking a call, or even after getting a text notification.

@fitheach So where are you transferring files over BT? It is very feeble for networking, extremely low power signal, so may be disrupted by electrical noise. Wifi transfer would be better

@fitheach Oh ok - yeah, I bet there's a BT protocol level issue. My phone has gone from 1.4 to 1.6 (I think) just doing beta Android updates over the past 3 years.I have used NFC tap to transfer files (not that large though).I use KDE Connect to transfer files to my computer over wifi, otherwise I use dropbox shares mainly. Or upload them to my webserver. It's all very clunky and not at all slick 😅

@fitheach I'm reading a bit about NFC - it says it is designed for large file sharing. On my phone I pull up the file in the Files app, hit the share button then click a "Nearby" icon - looks a bit like a chain - and your phone will start looking for a phone within a couple of inches to transfer the file to.Might be worth a try instead of BT. You have to hold the phones together back to back.

@Radical_EgoCom really? My son and his wife can't afford to buy a place but they're very happy with their landlord. Many people choose to rent to give themselves the flexibility to move when they want to. "Fuck landlords" isn't helpful, it is lumping predatory landlords with those who are providing a necessary service in exchange for a reasonable return on investment.
