@aral @wakingrufus I use “privacy consultant” but I don’t work for big companies. I consult for individuals and small businesses to keep themselves safe. Which is why I follow Aral. Learn a lot from him and I always recommend @better because it’s on all my devices, too!

@sean @MasterControlProgram I definitely would but I'm still weird about PeerTube. I think I just don't get it. I'm concerned about uploading on someone else instance...not sure how to set up my own...not sure of the cost.

I'm working the check in/reg desk for my day job winter conference, and my job is mostly just to check in people who already registered. We have all the badges printed ahead of time, but sometimes there's a misspelling or a registration on site, or another reason I need to print a new badge. We have a fantastic little printer for these badges. The printer is not my complaint, but Microsoft sure as hell is....

Our badges are made in Microsoft Publisher, which isn't on Mac, which is what I use.I didn't know that because it didn't say it, so I spent an hour yesterday downloading and installing ALL of Office because you also can't just download one piece of software. Microsoft makes you download and install the entire Office Suite all at once.Which I'm doing on very slow public wifi through a VPN.It took a while only for me to find out Publisher isn't there.

Luckily, I brought my old Surface Pro, but through the day I ended up borrowing Boss' computer and didn't need the Surface.Today, though, I needed the Surface because Bossman needed his computer all day.So, again, I spent an hour downloading and installing Office just to get to Publisher.Once installed, Publisher was fine, the file opened, all is good.Except the Surface isn't recognizing the printer.Note that my Mac recognized the printer fine.

I ended up spending another hour finding, downloading, and installing the drivers for the printer. Each step of this process had a myriad of various issues that I don't know how to explain and fix other than I just kept restarting the process and each time I did, it got a little further in the process. This has been a huge pain in the ass all because Microsoft SUCKS.This isn't an endorsement for Apple, just a dis-endorsement for Microsoft.

@alcinnz I don’t know anything about that kind of stuff. This is an Epson printer that is small and perfect for badges. I really love the printer but today was a pain in the ass.

I'd like to build an open-source game but I'm not sure how to go about that.

I'm generally okay with the idea of someone stealing my game ideas because I'm not in it for money.I want to make games because I want to make games that I want to play.If someone else makes them, that's great. Saves me the trouble.I'll move on to the next one on the list.

@Ricardus She is for the left what Trump is for the right. Considering Trump won the Presidency, this bodes well for the left.If she stays on brand and the left continues to support her, she will have a successful career and the left will be very happy.

Every programming course is boring af like "Here's how you do maths." next video "This is a variable." next video "This is a function."Wouldn't it be much better to just jump into creating projects and along the way teach those fundamentals?

@alcinnz Yeah after thinking about this most of the day my elevator pitch for the discussion is:"Programming fundamentals are boring and need to be spiced up."

The average American spends 200 hours a year commuting to work. That's 200 hours of time related to our income that is extracurricular. As in, if you're hourly like I am, you're not getting paid for it.

@tinker @ella_kane My web host allows really long passwords which is great. Mine is 99 characters long. But I’m still coming across websites who flip out if you go more than 13 characters. One example, not a website, but you can’t log in to Xbox360 if your Microsoft account password is more than 13 characters I think. It might even be less >:(

TIL it’s okay to use OSINT and other “hacker” skills to find missing persons but it is _not okay_ to turn in their kidnappers to the police because that would be working with the feds.
