Making bierocks: brown a pound of 85% lean ground beef in a Dutch oven or other fairly deep heavy-bottomed pan. DO NOT DRAIN.(If you're vegan, use your favorite equivalent. I've done it with huge batches of assorted mushrooms, with neutral vegetable oil to make up the fat. TVP or seitan would be excellent too.)Remove the ground beef with a slotted spoon and keep warm.

In the drippings, saute about 3/4 cup chopped onion (1 small), then add about 4 cups of shredded cabbage (about half a head). Add 1 to 1 1/4 teaspoon each of salt and black pepper. Cook and stir until liquid is almost gone and veggies are well caramelized.Prepare one box of Pillsbury Hot Roll Mix, or one batch of BHG refrigerator roll dough. (Yeah, do this before you cook everything else.)

Back on my Aldi kick. In their holiday section they had a $15 pack of remote outlets, controlled by a little keychain remote. Unlike the single-outlet one we have, it runs on a 3V coin cell.So... a Pi could power it. Just gotta connect all the switches and the Pi can control three different outlets. (The fourth switch set is, as the PCB suggests, all the outlets together.)

#cycling people: is there something I should avoid about these? https://www.rei.com/rei-garage/product/178267/garneau-urban-cycling-shoes-womens?sku=1782670003The indoor bike has straps, the outdoor one is clipless, and by clipless I mean it has flat 1970's pedals because it is a vintage Murray cruiser. (Also I never ride it here because it's a single-speed and there is a 6% grade out of my neighborhood... I'd never get home. Someday I will return to outdoor riding, but not today.)

Divide dough into 12 pieces. Roll out into a circle, scoop 1/12 filling on top, and pinch the edges closed. Some people make squares and draw up the corners, some people make half-moons, but by far the most common way is to just draw up the circle edges, smush them together, and put the bierock seam side down on the baking sheet.Bake at 375 for 15-20 minutes. Let cool enough to eat (this is the hard part).

@kelbot The waffle recipe in it is so good that America's Test Kitchen set out to find the Best Waffle Recipe and came back to it and said "nope no one has improved on this ever."(The front cover has come off the one I acquired from Mom and is being used as a bookmark now. I also have the loose-leaf 40's or 50's version that was her mother's.)

Okay, #photography people, I need some help.Whenever I try to take pictures of things with iridescent foil bits my cameras (a Nokia phone running Open Camera and elderly iPad native app) want to take out all the sparkle. I assume I'm running afoul of some kind of noise reduction but even if I turn off NR in Open Camera it still happens. I know the CCD can "see" the colors because if I catch it before it fully focuses, they show well in lens flare or whatever that is. How do I capture sparkles?
