Google has been doing it for years…https://www.straitstimes.com/world/united-states/us-dad-takes-photos-of-his-naked-toddler-for-the-doctor-google-flags-him-as-criminalMicrosoft has been doing it since forever…https://www.neowin.net/news/microsoft-bans-libreoffice-developers-account-without-warning-rejects-appeal/Amazon is, of course, doing it…https://www.seuros.com/blog/aws-deleted-my-10-year-account-without-warning/Yet every single time it happens, people are surprised, outraged and—most of all—helpless. It keeps happening because we allow it to happen, over and over again.

@0xabad1dea call me a conspiracy theorist but I honestly think they do this on purpose. I'm like 90% sure they figure that "hooman is soft, not gonna hurt" and they use us for practical gravity assist reasons.

I keep saying this, that I wouldn't be so worried about Russia just because of putin — I'm worried because of Supreme Commander Cheeto in the US…> “Russia is using the US focus on the Middle East as a window of opportunity. The Kremlin seeks to demonstrate that the West cannot manage security simultaneously in multiple strategic hotspots worldwide.”https://newsukraine.rbc.ua/news/narva-republic-in-nato-country-how-russia-1773679243.html

There are so many things to be angry at, I'm not even sure which one it is today. Idiotic warmongers? Christofascist bookburners? Billionaire plutocrats? Condescending bullies, or spineless sycophants rolling over for condescending bullies? Too many to count. So I'm just gonna continue spamming puppy pics until morale improves. My morale, mostly

Orbán is speaking. He accepts defeat and has already congratulated Magyar Péter.TISZA currently stands to take a ⅔ majority in the parliament (largely thanks to changes to the elections system made by FIDESZ in the past decade).Phew.

This dude gets it.> […] this situation we're moving into in Britain, in New Zealand, in Australia, all over the world to be honest – of unaffordable housing, of financial insecurity even for the highly educated workers – this is normal.>> Now if you look across the world, look at history, ordinary workers have never been rich. Ordinary workers have always been poor and insecure, and all the wealth has been taken by a tiny elite. What is unusual is the last 70 years [when] we really, really taxed rich people. And we stopped doing that in the 80s. What that causes is enormous amounts of passive income going to the rich.>> If I got $1 billion in assets, I make every year $50 million dollars, $1 million a week. You cannot spend a million dollars a week! You spend $50k a week, live like the Queen and you're buying $950,000 of assets a week.>> If you allow the super rich to generate that kind of passive income and not pay tax, they have *no choice* but buy all the assets.

So before I buy anything, I wanted to know how much I can do with just two 100W solar panels I had lying about and a ~300Wh battery I built myself from lithium cells. Well, turns out, quite a bit!Not only did the solar panels kept my home networking (internet modem, wifi access points, router, switches, about 20W power draw) running all day — it charged the battery full and it lasted until the morning, zero grid power used — half a kilowatt saved.

And these are just two, crappy (in solar panel terms) flexible portable panels I had lying around on an east-facing balcony on a cloudy but bright day.Given enough battery capacity or electricity consumption they would have made closer to a kilowatt-hour today (and 2-3 times that on a truly sunny day). With better panels and better arrangement this balcony fits about 3x the kWp, 2x300W panels are *very* doable. And I'm lucky that we also have a west-facing balcony that not only adds extra power but adds extra power in the afternoon/evening where the east-facing side has all but stopped producing.

Our household's average daily electricity usage is about 7kWh, with 4x300W panels facing east & west it's quite doable to power the household and charge a larger battery pack for overnight/cloudy weather days. There is of course a big "but": at this latitude, this really only works about 5-7months of the year, basically April to late September. Solar production (unless you have truly *tons* of panels) is abysmal: June to December the ratio is 30:1. If these panels are making a kilowatt-hour in May, you can expect maybe 0.04kWh in December. So you won't be going off-grid with balcony solar, no, but you can save 5-7 months of electricity consumption for the next 15-20 years. (Solar panels last forever, modern Lithium batteries can happily last many, many thousands of cycles).
