@emilialillienne @FSI @GalacticTurtle Everybody forgets Gen X...I'm in that age range now where if I make it to sixty I'll probably be okay for another couple decades after, barring major organ failure (my dad, just shy of 70, is *this* close to kidney failure) but the mortality rate goes up between 40 and 60. A lot of suicides and first heart attacks, etc.I came of age during the first Bush recession and was not positioned to benefit from the dot-com bubble. My marriage blew up right when that was popping. It's all been hell since.I have an ace in the hole where I may be able to recover a bit in the next couple years -- I was never a high earner, which didn't help, but this should improve matters. Should. Barring some OTHER new disaster.I don't hope for anything anymore. I just try to plan, and plan contingencies too. Seems safest.

@SheChanges @Fullycaffeinated @macha Critical thinking includes learning about what this disease does and therefore understanding it's not a fucking cold or the fucking flu, the latter of which (by the way) also kills thousands of people annually in any country getting it and why are we okay with that?This goes well beyond flu's death rate however, and is a lot harder to recover from.Using government to control people as closely as you're implying is a resource drain and a pain in the ass. The sort of person who asserts it's possible has clearly never worked in any sort of administration. Please do note North Korea is a poor nation of deprived people, before you bring them up. In our countries people still want to make money. That doesn't work well with full authoritarianism.

@starsstorm @Help-me-hoagie-man @LostInCalifornia FYI Ancestry DNA only does autosomes (non-sex chromosomes). Some of the others do mtDNA or Y-chromosome though.Any woman having a baby after 30 has a higher chance of the baby being karyotyped (risk of Down syndrome), especially prenatally. I'd love to see this become standard for everybody, along with a regular DNA test.
