@futurebird @TheSecondVariation many years ago I had a Harpegnathos venator colony and I was very impressed by their good eyesight (in comparsion to other ants). They would watch me when I came into the room and followed my moving finger which was 20cm away from the formicarium and when they spotted a cricket on the other side of the formicarium, they would sneak up like a cat until they jumped onto their prey. But in the end, the nest is dark and even the biggest eyes and best eyesight won't help you recognize your colony :)

@futurebird the funny thing is if you live in an area where the zip code starts with a zero and the database stores it as an integer 🤡 I don't know if this is a problem in the US but it was a very common problem here in some parts of Germany. It got better over the years but some web shops still have this problem. To understand your apartment problem: I assume you don't just have your name on the door bell but an apartment number like "Apt. 123AB"?

@futurebird they always break out when I'm asleep or away from home.

@futurebird for many years, we had a large L. emarginatus colony at my parents' house. They were very active, especially during swarming season. Sometimes there were hundreds of queens in the room 😅Luckily, there weren't many in my room, because I was a little worried about what would happen if they discovered my Camponotus colony in their territory 🙈
