@fitheach sounds great, will be interested to see how you go. Good price as well, I assume used off of the bay?

@verita84 Signal has groups, and so does Session.

@verita84 No it's been there for a few years at least. We started using it at work in 2018.

@verita84 group chats. Public groups I don't think it has.

@jpmens the same reasoning could be used against fediverse clients. This is a slippery slope.

@fristi could always use one of the Linux office options and have a small Win10 VM for Photoshop while you come to terms with gimp.As to office: you may want to look at https://www.onlyoffice.com/ or https://linux.wps.com/ or https://www.softmaker.com/en/ if LibreOffice isn't for you.

@fitheach just use curl, wget, or rsync. Large browser downloads can be a bit risky.

@kzimmermann yes. It works and it's an interesting idea, but has serious security implications. I assume you're fluent in German - here's a summary: https://www.privacy-handbuch.de/handbuch_74f.htmIf you look at it as an easy to use approach to encrypt email contents (but not the metadata) using PGP I think it's a viable solution. From a secure messenger point of view I consider Trifa (tox) and Session as the gold standards. See https://tox.chat/ and https://getsession.org/

@chris I agree with those statements but think it's important to differentiate between microblogging and messaging.Federation makes sense for the former as it removes central points of censorship. The contents, by nature, are public anyway. As for messaging metadata-less transport is a must, like in Session or other systems that use Tor-like infrastructure.

@kzimmermann sorry, just went by your handle sounding German. But yeah you got the jist of it.Yes, Session operates via Lokinet and can use Tor as well. It could conceivably work via USB drops, usenet posts, or carrier pigeon. 😂

@kzimmermann not yet. Agree it looks good. So now we have Tox, Session, Briar, and soon cwtch all doing essentially the same thing but in incompatible ways. Sigh.

Not to mention that end-to-end encryption is pointless if $EVILCORP controls the app at both ends anyways. Encryption? @kzimmermann I wonder how many people who "entrust" (for lack of a better word) their email to outlook.com & co. are in the secure messenger target audience.

@omnipotens @malin never has the saying "the cloud is just somebody else's server" been driven home more energetically. It's their servers, their ToCs, their rules. Even if you manage to take them to court over it, by the time all is done your company is down the drain anyway.

@kzimmermann @tweety that's a really great piece of art. Saved the one on the website and set it as my desktop background at work. That's going to go over well with all the microsoft suckers. 😂😂😂
