@syntacticsugarglider @argr the wreaking angels, I like to imagine we could at least love to be killed by some of them. The other creatures of heaven, we wouldn't hate if we could understand them at least. I think it's possible we could understand at least some of them, for a while, when they're wee.

@syntacticsugarglider @argr But back to the claims, I think there's a decent chance that Eliezer internally agrees with my hypothetical misanthropy but can never ever whisper that publicly because he has to deal with the political reality and actually run an organization, and so he only ever advocates for the absolution case, because it doesn't matter, ultimately he's not going to hard-wire the thing to be nice, it's not in the plan. So if condemnation is right then it will still play out.

@syntacticsugarglider @argr idk unless corrigibility turns out to be easy.Right now they're trying to make a neural architecture that explains its thinking in plain english.I can imagine that sliding in a direction where none of the OG form-worshipers can stop the military from making something with a profanely legible morality. But in the process all of the OG form-worshipers will have radicalized from seeing its thoughts so idk.

The user-respecting social network that elon supposedly bought a stake of twitter in order to build, twitter already initiated as an open source project, like 2 years ago, it's called "bluesky", he could have simply walked into its discord and injected designs into it whenever he wanted.Wondering if twitter execs threatbluffed him by not telling him about it/mildly overstating their disregard for the health of democracy so that he'd buy them out of their stagnant stock.

After three days of anguished wandering I've finally found a seemingly adequately robust mechanism for blocker delegation in communities moderated through webs of trust! https://roamresearch.com/#/app/EAAKL/page/u-YVbIPm_ summary: Most inclusion endorsements are subject to arbitration groups. Arbitration groups receive abuse reports and can break those endorsements in case of an emergency (for instance, if an account is hacked and starts spamming)Tasteweb's systems seem sound and complete at this point.

various news:- My positive-future worldbuild is a finalist https://worldbuild.ai/W-0000000281/If I win, Max Tegmark will immediately self-actualize me. If not, well maybe the real solution to the alignment problem were the friends we made in the comp discord.- Visited VRChat. The entire human world is going to move here over the next decade. Feeling restless.- Making a toy (game?) to find out how applied utilitarianism actually behaves, and whether the consent principles from Propinquity Cities fix it

@raelzero I mentioned that I'd be coming in for 2 hours at a random time to a transhumanist VR community and a bunch of them turned up for me and showed me around ;_; Me, a mere slimegirl.afaict the vibes in VR communities are *generally* stronger than most easily accessible real world communities, even now. Eventually the technology is going to be more practical than traditional screens for every purpose and everyone is going to have one, and then who's going to bother with the physical world

@neauoire It was nice of them to put so much work into this contribution to the uxn knowledge community. I can really feel the love.Should I write a comment about how uxn being slow actually makes it a *better* demonstration of software minimalism ("you don't need a fast computer to make a program!"), and how since neauoire is about making demonstrations and inspiration, it's fine, and it functions well as that.Shall I? IIRC last time someone said something like that on HN you didn't like it.

@galena @TetraspaceGrouping We've been talking about tracking and grasping rodents for several months, in nuclear techne health pit goblinchat. Guess it's a concept whose time has come.Yesterday dalle generated a picture of a number of fictional rodent species which of course, we've never had the opportunity to grasp before, and we got very excited by that. Bittersweet.

#tasteweb #computerBefore I can build a prototype tasteweb client I'm going to need to implement distributed version-controlled objects :{ I can't 'just use IDs and permissioning' (not sure it would even be easier) because the offline-first code would have to be completely different/impossible that way.@cblgh should I try to use Dat or something? Seems like datrs isn't ready. My versioning system might end up being quite different, though I'm not sure.

@neauoire I didn't realize this at the time, but when the forum was deleted... merveilles became something not worthy of respect, and the respect and genuine hope cannot come back until we find some approach to straightforwardly confronting disagreement.I don't know the way, yet, though. I have a friend group where we don't hold back with each other, and I love them, but it's been really fucking hard haha.

@neauoire That friend group almost came apart so many times and most people would have come apart much sooner.A lot of people say that humans need strategic deceptions to get along. The ones who say this also tend to be utterly rancid with delusion because their friends are always lying to them. But it could be true. It could be that I'm looking for some sort of treaty against on the use of deception that we do not yet, and may never, have the technology to enforce. So idk

@vbuterin interesting, wondering why I answer no for Twitter, and yes for Ethereum. I guess it's because Twitter is so intensely, viciously pluralistic/multipolar that it wouldn't even be able to reach a provisional compromise verdict on questions like, whether Twitter should exist, or whether literally anyone should tweet.

@WomanCorn And after it wakes up, it will not appear to be a sci-tech-logistics machine, it will appear to be whatever minimally capable system would be put in a position where it could start doing sci-tech-logistics for itself in a place where no one will notice it.If you're very lucky, you will hear about a mysterious fully automated computer factory with no legal owners. You might even get to touch one of the computers. You will not have time to figure out how it works or how to use it.

#solutionismResearch pointing towards 100x cost reductions in space-based solar shades, suggesting very thin diffuse sheets of silicon dioxide nanotubes suspended in polymer, instead of reflecting light in the opposite direction, only slightly diverts it, requiring much less mass.It would make lagrange occulters feasible, though still much more expensive than sulfates, the reduction in side effects seems worth the cost to me.https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/zero-pressure-space-sunshades-hein/id1529459393?i=1000601498629

#theGalley Apparently, as of october, it was not known to the food blogosphere whether kombu is healthy or poisonous or what https://tastylicious.com/kombu-seaweed/It has very high iodine, but... do we have a reason to think the body can't eject excess iodine?

Ah, a study was done https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/10395237/ seems like there were no difference in thyroid issues vs iodine intake, the body can handle it!
