The concept of the nation state isn’t timeless or even the dominate organizing form. Multi ethnic states were the norm for most of history and it is really just the modern industrial age that we see the ethnostate gain prominence. Most humans throughout history lived under empires. These empires viewed ethnic diversity as an asset or not worth bothering themselves about. The Ottoman Empire, the Roman Empire, the Austro-Hungarian empire were all multi ethnic states. Even in pre industrial Europe you would be hard pressed to find anything closely resembling an ethnostate. The French peasants all spoke local dialects, merchants a more universal version and their rulers (who wouldn’t even necessity be French)spoke Latin. It’s not simple because each of those empires had different systems. The Roman system was really more about citizen vs non citizen. Ethnic minorities from conquered peoples could earn citizenship through military service. The ottomans had special taxes for non Muslims but they also exempted the Jews from military service. My life does not revolve around solving things that you view as problems. I am spending my time and energy doing what I think will solve the problem as I see it. I’m focused on Bitcoin adoption and separating money from state. I don’t have time for nationalism.In the broader area I live illegal immigrants are a net positive of an estimated 70 million annually on the local level, a net negative on the state level of around 100 million, and a federal net positive of about 30 billion in social security and Medicare taxes they will never see a dime of. If anyone has a reason to complain it’s the state of California who is out 100 million a year. Perhaps this is why I don’t give a fuck as it appear to be a non issue and I live less than 100 miles from the southern border.
