M104 - the Sombrero Galaxy - is a galaxy about 31 Mly away in the constellation of Virgo. Seen nearly edge on, a prominent dust lane is visible around it's edge.

M58 is a barred spiral galaxy located in the constellation of Virgo. The bar can be seen as a bright line moving from upper left to lower right near the core of the galaxy.

Totality of the 20 Jan 2019 lunar eclipse, from the U of Calgary's Rothney Astrophysical Observatory's Baker-Nunn telescope. Eclipse totality is about the only time the BN can image the Moon as the Moon is too bright the rest of the time for the telescope. If you stack the Lunar images from through the eclipse you get an image of the Earth's shadow.

The Moon is tidally locked to the Earth, that is we see the same side of the Moon throughout its orbit about the Earth. That means that its period of rotation on its axis is the same as its orbital period and that it rotates once on its axis per orbit.

@space_cadet The crust is thinner on the near side so denser and more massive than the far side. This is what is causing the tidal lock.

The large galaxy near the centre is NGC 7331, a spiral galaxy about 40 Mly distant. The tiny galaxy just to the left of it is NGC 7335 is actually fairly large, but at 300 Mly away looks much smaller. Down and to the right in this Rothney Astrophysical Observatory Baker-Nunn image is Stephan's Quintet.

M27, the Dumbbell Nebula, is a planetary nebula located about 1300 ly away in the constellation Vulpecula. It was the first planetary nebula discovered, by Messier in 1764. Though it wasn't recognized as such till later. It is a popular object for amateur observation.

M13 is a globular cluster located about 22000 ly away in the constellation Hercules. Though we have been studying globular clusters for over a century, we still don't have a handle on how they formed.

I'm coming to the same conclusion that others already have. Based on their actions and what they say on social media "alpha" in "alpha male" means the same thing as "alpha" in "alpha software"...

The Moon, the Earth's only natural satellite, was likely formed when a large (possibly Mars sized) body collided with the Earth at some point in the very early solar system.

M75 is a globular cluster located about 68 kly away in the constellation Sagittarius.Being 68 kly away from the Earth in the direction of Sagittarius means that this cluster is actually on the other side of the Galactic core from us.

By changing filters we can change what we see. Both of these images are of the Horsehead Nebula. The first image is what our eyes would see if the object were bright enough. The second is using light from oxygen, hydrogen, and sulphur as the R, G, and B channels respectively.

M33 is a spiral galaxy located about 2.7 Mly away in the constellation Triangulum. It is one of the three large spiral galaxies of the Local Group (M31 and our own Galaxy being the other two). It is smaller than both M31 and the Milky Way making it the third largest galaxy in the Local Group.
