@sean Doesn't even have to be accurate. Just the silhouette of it is disgusting to me, whether parody or not.

@max @sean I don't think satire has become impossible, as such. It's just that, through no fault of the satirist, when you satirize corporate culture today, corporate culture is already a caricature of itself. So necessarily your satire of it will just be repeating the exact things that it is. Which to me is both not funny, but also disturbing in a slightly traumatic way.

@max @sean Especially when it comes to corporate social media, the corporations have already covered the entire spectrum from "so detached from real life that our automated system is going to generate promotions to 'celebrate' anniversaries of tragedies" to "we locked a gen z goblin in the basement with our social media creds and promptly forgot they existed" to whatever the hell went on with NormOfNorth.

@max @sean When the real life we live in right now is as strange as the insulin thing, you're going to have to come up with something very, very exceptional before I don't immediately go "yeah, that could be real, that's not outside the realm of possibility".

@max @sean Yes. Exactly. It makes my gut wrench in a very uncanny valley sort of way. But I wouldn't wish for it to not exist - I can simply ignore it.

@ChrisWere But why? And what would this accomplish which the URL verification doesn't already do?

@ChrisWere That is to say: To me, an account is an account. I've never met you. To me you're not Chris Were, you're ChrisWere. I don't have any particular person outside of this that I wish to associate with whoever your handle represents. And in the event there's someone on a medium, for example the fediverse, that I know from a different context, for example through a different medium, then they can simply provide me with that verification out-of-band (i.e. through the other medium).

@Linux_in_a_Bit @omnipotens I don't know... I get the impression that stuff isn't propagating outward quite like it should, at the moment. But maybe that's just me. Or maybe there's just some bottleneck somewhere causing a backlog.

@Linux_in_a_Bit @omnipotens Maybe, but when I go to the remote instance and look at the same message, I can see all sorts of replies from various instances, except mine from here. And I don't seem to have any of the same problems on my accounts on other instances.

@Linux_in_a_Bit @omnipotens @elaine @G_Dog1985 @Linus_in_a_Bit It looks like my messages from a few days ago are slowly starting to propagate. Nothing in the timeline yet, but it might just be a matter of time if there's a big backlog.

@trafotin This is something I've been trying to tell everyone for over a decade: Aside from an algorithm inserting random garbage in your timeline, your timeline is entirely made up of the people you follow and the things they boost (or retweet, in the case of Twitter).I.e. if you're seeing tweets from someone and you don't like it, unfollow them. If you're still seeing their tweets, unfollow whoever is retweeting them (or you can also use "turn off retweets" on the offending person, if that is still a feature on Twitter (I haven't been on there for three-four years)).If from time to time you can go "this person keeps posting stuff that doesn't spark joy in me, I'm going to unfollow them or turn off their retweets", then you will find that your timeline becomes a beautiful, flowering garden of things that make you happy.Of course, this is all irrelevant when an algorithm is inserting random garbage in your timeline.

@trafotin Not even - the algorithm, or any sort of machine learning / ai type stuff these days, is just an obtuse program that tries to maximise a set of numbers. In terms of recommending you tweets, the numbers involved are things like "number of retweets", "number of replies", and so on. So basically the algorithm is just a machine that shows you a thing and goes "is this something that makes you tap the screen for any reason?" and if someone taps on something it goes "OK, I'll add a +1 to my notes", and then shows you more of the stuff that makes other people tap.And then when you consider that saying stupid shit makes people yell at you, and preaching to the choir doesn't, it's obvious that you've invented a machine that amplifies stupid shit.So I doubt that Elon has done anything to the algorithm - it was always like this. He's just upped his "stupid shit" factor by an order of magnitude by swinging a figurative baseball bat around in the microservices.

@jk What we need is a neural network that is trained to manage dependencies, and you can just feed it an arbitrary repository and it will set up a working environment for you.
