@futurebird the idea of a demon-containment castle is an interesting onemost castles are made to be as easy as possible to defend and as hard as possible to directly attack, but a castle meant to protect the world should be the inverse of thishow to construct a building that's as easy as possible to invade but as difficult as possible to defend for the demons that live inside(looking briefly at some images though, it doesn't seem they built it that way, so..)

@futurebird in the mid-2000s, that would be irc and shoutcast (and if you wanted live chat you'd just run the channel name in your stream somewhere and people will join)if you needed a bigger pipe, someone runs a relay and the audience connects to that insteadsomehow, technology has gone _backwards_ from there

@stux solar sails are interesting because they let you do this with technology we're basically capable of now with focused engineering effortthe general idea is that you want to get the thing into a high enough orbit that gas molecules won't slow it down (for a sail this is way, way higher than LEO), let it descend out of earth's orbit somehow...then tilt the sail such that deflected photons push it retrograde, ever closer to sunapparently, this _is_ doable for small payloads in a lifespan

@futurebird on far too many topics it'd be next to impossible to have news at all about it without social mediapeople who react negatively to news crossing their feed are wild to me, because even in the IRC days, even if you were in a channel of only 20 or 30 people you probably heard of major news events from chat before they even went on television (much less, in dozens of them)

@futurebird it's rare to hear anyone in the states bring this up, but it's very unusual to be able to migrate freely to another country unless you have a 4 year university degree, which is probably one of the best reasons to try and obtain onethe fact that most countries settled upon this insane restriction is its own can of worms spanning all the way back to nativism but the fact remains, so i suspect anyone who discourages university for any group of people
