@lightweight easy example:Web editor saving has the potential to fail in a way that wipes progress on text files.Desktop applications can wipe web progress if there is a sync process happening, and conflicts seem to just get silently wiped even if the edits are outdated and the desktop app just came online for the first time since that edit.That said, I have yet to encounter network storage that worked properly, no i do not have an alternative aside from command line hackery, which sucks as a user experience and is fragile af.

A while back, I briefly talked about means-of-means-of-production, and then a few days ago I saw an elon musk meme along the same lines.A machine that makes bread, or cars, is a means of production, and is as complex as it is.A machine (or set of tools & environment) to make the machine that makes bread/cars is exponentially more complex, and it is this second form that monopolizes my headspace these days.One such example of this cascading complexity is that any means of production requires a location over a duration of time to produce anything at all, as well as the raw material and human inputs, but the toolset for sustaining production (maintenance, upkeep & repairs, upgrades) is much simpler than the ones to create such an environment in the first place.Means-of-means is the focus on tools, processes, and repeatability rather than the artisan or manufacturing level, and it overlaps with civil infrastructure engineering rather a lot.

@jordan31 @kline look harder, then.The channel in question was just one example of the massive breach of trust that multiple sources have reported across the Freenode network post-takeover.If you see nothing wrong with a mass takeover of community channels by a group with authoritarian overtones and history of doing shady shit, maybe you need a reminder that this sort of manipulation, deplatforming, and erasure is a symptom of the toxicity in tech investments these days.What the new Freenode "owners" did goes far beyond "house cleaning", and borders on outright fascism. Idk where that falls on the "evil" meter, but it certainly isn't good or transparent or trustworthy.So again...look deeper if you fail to understand why people are upset about this.
