@xenophora Ugh. Paying someone for their training and expertise is one thing, but eye exams need to be covered under single payer medical systems.

@xenophora I hate going for an eye exam and then having the doctor try to push me to buy glasses from their associated shop so they earn a commission. I already paid $85 for the exam, get off my back, I'm not spending $200+ on frames. (And they can also bite me with the fear mongering about ordering online.)

An incredibly detailed lifesize octopus cut from one sheet of paper by artist Masayo Fukuda - "At first glance, the beautiful artwork looks as though it was rendered using fine-tipped pens, but Fukuda carefully cut every detail from one sheet of paper."https://mymodernmet.com/kirie-paper-cutting-art-octopus-masayo-fukuda/

Any hobby purists can be irritating, but the type of record player enthusiasts who Have To Be Right On The Internet are high up on the list of The Worst. "It's going to destroy your vinyl!!11!" Seriously, have you never had a piece of physical media fail on you before? Had a scratched CD that skipped tracks, but you kept it anyway? Loved a book so much pages fell out? Have none of you joyless fucks listened to a cassette until the tape snapped or the oxide flaked off?

@BestGirlGrace Is there a name for that subset of belligerent mansplainer who is enraged but acts like giving an actual explanation is beneath him (to hide that he has no explanation)? Because there needs to be.

This is such a brilliant idea - a smart binder that has a movement sensitive setting so it can automatically loosen/relax during sport"The chest binder he has created is a garment made with smart materials woven through the fabric that enables the user to take breaks throughout the day without removing their clothing and needing to go to a private space...includes a smart alloy called Nitonel, which when electrified, decompresses the garment and loosens the binder." https://www.lboro.ac.uk/news-events/news/2019/june/student-creates-product-that-may-transform-lives/

Searching Etsy for "fashion eyepatch" because the last few times I've had a migraine the headache doesn't spend all that much time being incapacitating, but the light sensitivity in my left eye is awful. Anyway, too much stuff is tagged "steampunk" and now I'm like, where my normies with an eye injury at?

If it isn't obvious at this point, I'm starting to get a wine bottle type philosophy when it comes to choosing beer: How good is the label? But with wine there's an assumption that spending money on graphic design is an investment in backing up the quality of drink; craft beer labels are more about catching the eye on a more level playing field taste wise. Anyway: Dandy of the Underworld! Squid in a top hat and monocle! Umami, coffee-ish stout!

The one thing that would make e-books better for me would be a screen with a stylus for adding notes and marginalia. Typing in personal annotations is fine; but being able to draw circles, arrows, underlines, or just exclamations is so much more spontaneous and less clinical feeling.
