The phrase "how to save the planet" is a form of ignorance & or narcissism. The planet is massive - comparatively, humans are tiny objects that exist on a massive planet's surface. How to ecologically sustain human societies (cooperative civilizations) - therefore the number of humans that depend on them. In a democracy - 1. An electorate that supports & promotes governments that support, promote, and invest in ecologically sustainable activities (that's what it will take to sustain societies). 2. Governments that support, promote, and invest in ecologically sustainable activities (supports the electorate. The culture)3. Evidence-based planning (i.e., not being dominated by corporations' business agendas)3. Being and doing 1, 2, and 3 - honestly (i.e., zero greenwashing & "blah blah blah" virtue signaling)#climate #psychology #epistemology #politics #economics #sustainabilty #RenewableEnergy #HomeInsulation #habitatRestoration #rewilding #CarbonSequestration #NatureBasedSolutions

@diresock So you voted for "blah blah blah"?In what science paper did you read "promised acid rain"?So, by your way of thinking, if rainwater was as acidic as battery acid then you'd? (stop blah blah blahing?)Seriously though - what are you blah blah blahing about? Any location that, for example, burns coal (smoke emissions) - will have rainwater that has a lower pH (more acidic - basic chemistry)"Acid rain emerged as an important environmental problem in China inthe late 1970s......larger emissions of pollutants......as a result of significant emissions andsubsequent deposition of sulfur, widespread acid rain is observed in southern andsouthwestern China. In fact, the deposition of sulfur is in some places higher thanwhat was reported from the “black triangle” in central Europe in the early 1980s" https://pubs.acs.org/doi/pdf/10.1021/es0626133

@JonKramer @diresock Quite ironic since the forestry industries also sell wood fuel, which once burnt - is also a cause of aquatic acidification. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration "The ocean has become more acidic over the past century because of an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide it is absorbing from the atmosphere, leading to a lower pH and greater acidity" https://www.noaa.gov/ocean-acidificationThe common theme is that burning stuff is bad for the environment and human health.

To qoute - The Common Ground analysis includes 1800+ pieces of data on the problems we face, the concerns we have and the solutions we prefer - with 250+ common ground policies identified in total. For example:75% of all voters want a #Green New Deal for green #jobs and infrastructure65% want a £15 minimum #wage74% want #rent controls to help with the cost of living crisisBetween 65 and 69% of voters want #nationalisation of #energy #water #rail #buses and #mail .78% want the NHS run in the public sector and 65% support tax rises to #boost #NHS funding83% want free social care for the over-65s. https://citizen-network.org/news/the-common-ground-we-shareFYI, some will say that, to paraphrase, "we can't afford X, Y or Z". But, bare in mind that some will say we can't afford to mitigate climate change. Let's *not* listen to ignorance, corrupt & foolish thinking. We can afford, and more, all aforementioned policies. " All", we need to do is to have policies that redistribute our resources more fairly. So, don't vote for the rich & corrupt salespeople whom made their wealth by "investing" in dark money thats associated with degrading ecology.Research how they made their money. Is that a conflict of interests when "serving" the people as a politician? #CommonGood #cooperation #cooperative #CitizenNetwork #OpenDemocracy #UK #politics

Success is - a unified focused message. A strategy that the majority can relate to (plus inoculation against corporate greenwash)The two fundamental requirements to mitigate global heating (therefore climate change) & biodiversity loss are:1. Stop burning Carbon based fuels.2. Protect \ restore natural habitats. For example, "A growing body of research clearly shows that wood smoke increases the risk of serious health outcomes including asthma, heart attacks, strokes, cancer, and dementia" https://woodsmokepollution.org/phone/index.html"EcoStoves" = disinformation."Carbon lean" wood fuels = disinformation."Smokeless" fuels = disinformation."green" fuels = disinformation. "carbon capture" = disinformation."carbon offsetting" = disinformationBurning "recycled" plastics for fuel = disinformation.Burning fuels causes myriads of eco "problems". Join the "dots". The message is "stop burning fuels" to stop global warming & improve our health, etc.100% Clean and Renewable Wind, Water, and Sunlight All-Sector Energy Roadmaps for 139 Countries of the World https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2542435117300120#science #climate #GlobalWarming #ClimateChange

To paraphrase "Reality can be so inconvenient - let's ignore it and maybe it will go away". On reading a #Univerity level textbook about #developmental #psychology - what concerned me (though didn't surprise me) was what research was actually missing. The phrase "air pollution" wasn't mentioned once in the whole textbook. #AirPollutionhttps://doi.org/10.1016/j.neuint.2019.104580 "Age appears to play a relevant role in air pollution-induced #neurotoxicity, with growing evidence suggesting that air pollution may contribute to #neurodevelopmental and #neurodegenerative #diseases" - That means air pollution seriously harms #children's #health. Who knew? that inhaling the #chemicals emitted after burning something could be so dammed harmful? (sarcasm - as I've been writing this #### for decades)So, what is the psychology that means (too many) psychologists have a habit of not talking about air pollution? Could it be something quite simple? such as - people don't "like" the idea that their car's exhaust emissions, etc, are hurting their own children's health. #CogntiveDissonance Developmental impact of air pollution on brain function https://doi.org/10.1016/j.neuint.2019.104580Effects of air pollution on the nervous system and its possible role in neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative disorders https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pharmthera.2020.107523#climate #ecology #ClimateChange #biology

@kingsley "No moral compass"I have not been keeping up with this social context. However, there are certainly some types of politicians that are only chasing votes. So, we can think of these types as folk that is merely considering what are the latest population's "fashion" (e.g., what's trending).Generally, they think like business people selling products to the masses. And that generally takes two forms of approaches.1. Say what the voters want to hear (sell the product they want)Or, and -2. Try to *manipulate the voters (sell the "product" using deception. e.g., greenwash).*The reason why it's manipulation rather than influence - is that some politicians will sell a political narrative that is against the voter's own political and economic interests. Billionaires didn't become rich by promoting social equity (quite the opposite - on average. Of course, some rich folk do try to do some good with their money)

Whilst watching some American TV programmes I've heard people say "my therapist says". In any organisation, it's surely beneficial for their to be a qualified councillor. Talking about it, discussing, for example, situations in which a person experiences anxiety, is healthier than socially suppressing those experiences. But, many adults don't "like" talking about it. Or they may try to talk about it with their friends, that, whilst their friends may have good intentions, their advice maybe limited to saying what they feel their friend wants to hear. Which, in some contexts, can compound the underlying social problem. In my experience, humans, in some cultures, don't feel comfortable to talk about subjects that, well, don't make them feel comfortable. Or that hit a "nerve" & make them feel threatened, insecure, angry, etc.The village l live in has many adults that don't want to talk about air pollution. Leave them be, to poison their own & families air with coal & woodsmoke pollution, and they will do that for the rest of their, shorter, lived lives. What are they so frightened of? Are these adults that insecure that they don't want to think that their open fires & wood stoves - cause diseases? Why do they get angry when people try to talk to them, inform them, help them, that their coal fires & wood stoves are bad for their health?#psychology #AirPollution#education #CleanAir

Title - The cruel or kind #political party? Certain forms of #politics are evidently cruel to outgroups & certain individuals within their ingroup. These forms of politics are advocated for by groups of people that have behaviours ("lifestyles") that objectively cause more cruelty, compared to a kinder lifestyle. For one example, #vegans compared to animal eaters (consumers & user's of animal parts) is a clear example. Animals can suffer, and #death is usually related to suffering. Or rather, being killed is usually against the animal's will. Farmed animals, or wild animals, don't choose to be slaughtered by humans. Some humans make the choice to consume & use animal parts - in privileged cultures, where there are many non-meat choices that many humans don't choose. Therefore, some humans are either explicitly or implicitly choosing the crueller, the more barbaric, option. Their lifestyles and consumerism habits cause more cruelty (than the alternative).#wildlifeSo, there are explicit (aware) and implicit (ignorant & or in self-denial of) forms of cruelty. For example, many local people burn wood and coal, but they're not intentionally wanting their children to develop asthma. Air pollution diseases are the outcome of air polluting behaviours, not generally the intention of humans. Then there is explicit cruelty - The fuel industries (executives) are aware that their products cause air-polluted diseases (& climate change), though they act in a way that tries to suppress that science (trying to cover up the cruelty) Cruel people tend to have excuses for their cruel behaviours. For example, meat eaters, in privileged cultures, evidently want to eat meat. The manufacturers evidently choose to use, for example, leather, rather than synthetic leather in their products. They know what they are doing causes cruelty, but they do it anyway. The biological evidence suggests that only sentient #animals experience pain & suffering (& the opposite, relief & pleasure). #Plants don't suffer. However, humans with an extreme cognitive bias, to eat meat, don't base their point of view on evidence (they tend to deny it). Their desire to eat meat manifests as a confirmation bias. They either lie about what they know to be true, or they convince themselves, delude themselves, that they must eat meat for health reasons. No amount of evidence, changes their point of view, because, fundamentally, first & foremost, they want to eat meat. That's their premise (a belief caused by a desire. An illogical fallacy). No amount of evidence changes the local people's wood-burning and coal-burning behaviours. They believe in faith-based ideologies, not fundamentally science. Because people are humans, and humans are animals, people can suffer. It's healthy to have cultures that consist of people, that are lucky to have certain privileges, who use those privileges to speak out & criticise the forms of politics & lifestyles that are hypocritical. It's progressive to have cultures where people, that have fewer privileges, and human rights, for example, can speak against those that repress them. Speak out against the hypocrisy of those groups that express views that they deserve more privilege, even when it's not clear how, or why, they deserve to have more privilege (evidently that's a personal bias of theirs)However, don't expect those that are aware that they cause cruelty (explicitly), to change their minds (on a large scale). They do it anyway. They eat meat anyway. It's the implicit forms of cruelty where headway, where progress, can be made (raising awareness). Farm animals or wildlife don't have their own voice in politics or industry. Some humans speak out for non-human animal rights (they have compassion for the animals that other humans exploit). Some people speak out against cruel & corrupt industries. The fossil fuel industries are making record profits. The evidence, from their own business communications, proves that the fuel industries & many of their associates are fraudulent. https://www.ucsusa.org/resources/climate-deception-dossiers In a capitalist economy (that includes cultures such as China & Russia), money buys more privilege. For example, to pay for a legal defence. To have politicians or "think tanks" on your side. Some of the cruellest & corrupt industries - have the most privilege (the louder "voice"). Some of the humans, that cause cruelty & are corrupt, have the most privilege (money). Hypocrisy means having, therefore, expressing double standards. One standard for "us", but a less privileged standard for "them". One standard for me, but a less privileged standard for you. A millionaire can own a private jet and lobby governments to promote jet biofuels. Even whilst food is not being shared with the people in their own rich country (e.g., food banks). A person on a low income will probably pay rent to someone with more money than them. The economic system takes from the have-nots - & gives more to the haves. Those with more money, generally, favour an economic system that sustains their wealth, rather than a system that levels the population's wealth (living standards)Fundamentally, inequality means there are people with more privilege than others. In cultures where there are big differences in the quality of what human rights people have, there is an underlying hypocrisy. There are extreme hypocrites that try to cover up their hypocrisy or, if they have power (e.g., political & economic), don't try so hard - because, they are the repressive regimes. For example, Putin's Russia. The sociopath's habit is, when the mask slips, scare people by threatening more violence (e.g., inferring the use of nukes without explicitly stating that). Simple, but effective, stone-aged-brained repression. Hypocrisy is a cognitive bias. Whilst problems, caused by humans, mean it's not presently possible to "level" the human population's privileges (globally), more often than not, the unequal status quo between the haves & have nots (e.g., .money & all the cultural privileges that afford) is actively sustained by the most privileged having severe double standards (therefore sociopolitical views).Stone aged brained #politics Stone aged brained fuel burning #industry Stone aged brained #meat eatersStone aged brained social #psychology

What happens when extremely rich capitalist folk hear about climate change? They write books that feature their ideas about how to sustain the rich, whilst apparently solving climate change. But, shhh! Of course the books don't address the source of the problem; rich folk and their high resource demanding lifestyles. Isn't it about time that Elon Musk wrote a book about his plans to not solve climate change ("plan A"), because "plan B" includes space rockets to Mars.
