@Faz Artificially separating SF and fantasy is more trouble than it is worth. Many writers write both, many readers read both, and the border area between them is HIGHLY debatable (and constantly debated). #scfi #fantasy

@mike @john I strongly recommend the combination of Ublock Origin and Privacy Badger. I have used both for years. People's description of what Youtube and Twitter are like on the desktop always seem weird to me: so much trash I just never see.

@mike @john Looks like Privacy Badger supports Chrome, Firefox, Edge and Opera, and has an open ticket for Safari support and a note that the Safari API lacks some features they would need

@john @mike Well, there's your problem 😉 . As a software engineer, I'm not quite in the group that proverbially keeps a gun next to the printer in case it acts shifty, but I come close. I avoid both Microsoft and Apple as much as I can.

@grammargirl I keep asking and my doctors keep saying 'not yet'. My last booster was Octoberish, and I've had fairly major surgery since then

@john No. Derogatory terms are counterproductive, unless your goal is to drive them away

@Wolven My sympathy. My body seems to change its mind about what I can eat every six months. Life gets annoying until I figure out the new rules.

@futurebird My first NaNoWriMo project (2015) was partly written on a laptop in airports. It was fine. I would not try it on a phone or tablet: touch screens don't like my fingers.

I have added a new member of my household. I am calling her Nyx: she is mostly black, even her whiskers, but has little constellations of white hairs in a few places. Her eyes are green.I'll try to get some better pictures once she settles into her new home a bit more#caturday #CatsOfMastodon

@foone Having learned to type on manual typewriters (non-electrified) in the late 60s, I am inclined to view n-key rollover as a fault, so our definitions of Trash keyboards do not match.

@CStamp @ai6yr I have a friend who used to keep domestic geese. I was told that when the geese come at you, you should hold your arms out to the side to show it how big your wings are, and if you are holding a stick you can hold out to make your wings even wider, that's even better. I don't know whether that also works for wild geese.

@glyph On Mastodon, we are the algorithm. Besides things that matter to me personally, I have a policy of always boosting job openings and job hunting posts. I generally try to boost other posts that might useful to other readers, or where someone is looking for information in a non-annoying way, even if it is not a topic that interests me strongly. As a former librarian I also tend to boost publication announcements unless they are very badly structured...That's my algorithm.

@futurebird Except... the address format you just proposed is not the one that the US Postal Service mandates. When I recently spent a few years temporarily living in a condo, the USPS insisted that the correct format for my address was ### Street Name Unit ####all on one line, no comma. They delivered mail that used other formats. Mostly. I think? I had the impression that they were grumpy about it, and can't really know whether some items went astray. I think USPS acceptance is needed.

@futurebird Both of your options in your example look identical to me.At the moment I'm in a house which is on unincorporated land, so it uses the name of the city where the post office that delivers here is located. (also coincidentally the county name)My business address is in a town that shares a zip code with a neighboring town. This used to be a problem for distribution of sales tax receipts (which relied on zip codes), but I assume they have improved things in recent years.

@futurebird None of the above school sucked, so fine is a hell of an overstatement, but I was pretty sure boarding school would suck worse. Being locked in with the bullies would have been worse.
