This was a fun & sad adventure day. I paddled across Jenny Lk & hiked up Cascade Cyn looking for Ochotona princeps (American pika). Large colonies were reported in the trail side scree in a 2005 Grand Teton Nat Pk book I had read before my visit. Other than long abandon haypile dens, the little guys were nowhere to be found. Sadly, a warming planet has driven them further up the mountain. In many places they are running out of mountains to climb.#NotAI #Mountains #Lake #Boat #Forest #Darktable

It's past time for me to stop talking about making night scenes & start doing them. At some point, I'll be able to capture what I feel in one of these attempts. Being a night owl, I love seeing how artificial light pushes back the night. There's something enigmatic & lonely about it, yet, at the same time, it's also warming. I'm especially intrigued by a lone light on a lonely road, but for now, I'll shoot lights around the college.#Night #Darkness #Light #Architecture #Photography #Darktable

I hope your paraskevidekatriaphobia isn't bothering you too much today. The Bible, Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales, and the old tradition of hanging people on Fridays aside, I'd think people would fear Monday the 13th more than Friday the 13th. At least in modern times, people generally feel more positive about Fridays than they do Mondays, right? https://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/16543009 #FridayThe13th

Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS in the Arizona evening sky, again! This time diving into the Grand Canyon! I can't believe my luck. I planned this trip several months ago before the comet was even on my radar. Now I find myself comet chasing! (Again, this is a quick edit as my travel laptop is pretty old and junkie with a low resolution monitor that is not color corrected.)#Comet #Astrophotography #Astronomy #Desert #GrandCanyon #Photography #Darktable

@merileedkarr @davidaugust Congratulations! You'll find that if you spend a few extra minutes searching around, often you can find what you are looking for less than on Amazon. I use Amazon for reviews, but I almost never buy anything through that platform. Maybe once or twice per year. I also will go directly to the Amazon store's external website and buy direct from the seller, hopefully cutting out the Amazonian middleman.

@dan @mattblaze Good grief, I remember those stupid punch card phones. Oddly, I always preferred dialing. I kind of liked the mechanical aspect of the action of dailing. I remember when phone numbers had exchange names for a prefix: DIckens 4-1712 or MUrray 5-4513. I also remember party lines. You'd pick up the handset and hear two parties talking and you would (should) gently set the handset back down in its cradle. (I always did, too, unlike many nosy people.)

It warmed up today so I ran a few errands on my motorcycle. Everybody I saw, young & old, had their faces smashed into their phones--people walking in parking lots, employees working in stores--it was creepy. It reminded me of the Star Trek TNG episode where the Enterprise crew was addicted to a game played in AR glasses. People were around me, but they weren't. It was like the invasion of the mind snatchers. In a lot of ways, life seemed better without the internet. Do you remember? Thoughts?

For example, where I work in a small retail art supply store and print and framing shop, all of my young colleagues are often on their phones. They finish a task, they check their phone. A task is taking a long time, they take a break and check their phone. I don't even take my phone to work. So I guess employers just build the lost productively into their cost of good sold nowadays?

Wow wee, wow wow! JWST just keeps raising more questions than it's answering--& that's a good thing! JWST discovered that the toddler galaxy, GS-z13-1--which existed just 330 million years after the Big Bang--had ionized the ancestral neutral hydrogen that surrounded it allowing its light to transverse the universe & reach JWST. According to present hypothesis, that's incredibly early for a galaxy to have done that. https://www.esa.int/Science_Exploration/Space_Science/Webb/Webb_sees_galaxy_mysteriously_clearing_fog_of_early_Universe#Astronomy #AstroPhysics #Cosmos #JWST #Science

I just got my second Nicole spam. I seem not to be very popular with the Nicole(s) having only been hit on twice now. Makes me feel as old as I am. :/ So I'm wondering, has anyone responded to them with something like, "Hi Nicole! You know you're a meme in the fediverse and everyone is laughing at you?" #Nicole
