It's late, I've spent all day exploring Krita and haven't actually drawn my daily sketch yet :'DUnfortunately my conclusion is that while PS CS6 is death by a thousand annoyances, Krita is death by a thousand UX inefficiencies. There are only a few things I need that it outright can't do, but there are a lot of common (for me) tasks that take too many clicks or require workarounds to accomplish. I can only fit so many shortcuts within reach of my keyboard-hand.

@HikaTamika Krita isn't *focused* on comics, but it has a comic manager so you can keep your pages together and organized, and they seem quite open to adding more comics features. It doesn't have dedicated tools for drawing panels AFAIK, but I'm quite used to using stroked selections or layers for panel borders, so that hasn't been an issue.I also don't know if it has any tools for speech bubbles, as I prefer to hand-draw mine. What are the specific features you're looking for?

@HikaTamika Krita has rulers/"assistants", which let you snap your brush strokes to lines and shapes, which I think is close to what you're looking for: https://docs.krita.org/en/user_manual/painting_with_assistants.htmlI don't think it has anything like CSP's radial curve ruler, though. The brush system is super flexible, with multiple "engines" available, I think a lot of effects you'd use shapes for in CSP might be easier to do with specialised brushes in Krita.

@xerz @Elizafox I don't even think it's an empathy thing. One can be without empathy and still see contributing to the well-being of those around you as beneficial to oneself in the long term.Rather, I think there's an excessive focus on and celebration of individual achievement, which encourages selfish gains in the short term at the expense of long-term and communal gains.I think a lot of these people had a better sense of right/wrong as children, but had it "nurtured" out of them.

@xerz The expectation that they get something back, and the dismissal of someone else's benefit as one of these possible somethings, those come at least partially from nurture, I think. It's natural that we want some benefit from the things we do, but it is nurture that defines what is valuable and what is not.

PSA since we have so many new arrivals :DMastodon has you set what language your post is in manually instead of doing error-prone auto-detection like Twitter does.In combination with language filtering in Preferences > Other, this allows people who speak your language to find you more easily, and people who won't understand your posts can choose not to see them.Make sure the selected language matches the language you're using! (If your Mastodon client has this feature. The web client does!)

@mmu_man Oh, interesting! I guess your instance runs a different version. On my instance, there's no auto-detect option, just "same as interface language."I remember it *used* to auto-detect and it worked about as well as you can expect, then that was removed in favour of the posting language option in Preferences, and at a later point, the per-toot option was added.

When writing hashtags, please use CamelCase instead of alllowercase! Example: not "mastoart", but "MastoArt".That way, they're easier to read and it's easier to spot typos :] In addition, screen readers generally do a much better job with camel case because they can see the word breaks. The hashtag suggestions often suggest the all lower-case version because so many people use those. Please resist the temptation to just click it and move on, type out the CamelCase version :D#FediTips

On a related note: when looking into the hashtag suggestion issue, I saw someone mentioning that on their instance, they curate the tags to make sure the CamelCase ones are suggested. Is this something our lovely moderation team could perhaps tackle, when they're not so busy with new accounts? Is the suggested hashtag capitalisation determined by frequency of use, or will it take manual intervention to fix?

I miss having pinned hashtags on my profile. Looks like Masto V4 got rid of them D:

@smallsees Apparently they're still available if you use the simple view, they're at the bottom of the right column. They're nowhere to be found in the advanced view though D:

Mastodon has spoiled me and now I sorely miss being able to just mute individual users on every other social/art thing I use.

Thoughts on software adapting popular user scripts into native features?A time-saver for users, or a time-waster for the devs? xP

@sarvo To be clear, I didn't mean including or porting the scripts, but just implementing the same functionality. For example, if some user implements a non-contiguous Paint Bucket tool, should the program's developers still consider adding a non-contiguous toggle on their native Paint Bucket tool?

Does Mastodon (web client) have a way to filter an *entire thread*? Filtering a post seems to only hide that post, but not the replies.I want to mute some repost threads so that boosts of the repost replies don't clutter my TL, but it doesn't seem like I can, except by muting the poster entirely, which I'd rather not do.

@ML2 Mastodon only lets you mute conversations you're participating in, you can't mute an arbitrary person's thread as far as I can tell. And I think this muting only affects notifications anyway, it's not a filter.

@ML2 Alas, notifications the problem for me, I want to filter all posts from specific threads from ever showing up on my TL in the first place xPAnother user mentioned that the post filter *might* also affect replies, but maybe it's not retroactive. I guess I'll leave my filter in place and see if any more boosted posts from the problem thread(s) appear.

Unfortunately, as a federated service, #Matrix has the same problem as Mastodon: picking a server to make your account on before you can start doing much of anything :'DI currently have a Discord server for my friends and fans, and I'd eventually like to set up a space to that effect on Matrix. Is there a public server focused on artists and artist communities like that?I know I can roll my own, but I want something reasonably stable I can direct other users to register on xP

Are there any art books of Victorian porn and erotica? I know there's plenty of material out there, but I've not seen it collected in any meaningful way. Looking for something that's not just a wank collection, but provides at least some context on the photos and drawings - year, location, production info, original form of distribution, background info on the artists and models, etc.I don't imagine this info is easy to find, but it seems like something someone's done.

I've reached critical mass of being annoyed at people calling every conifer a "pine" :DPines never look like spruces! Even when they grow in a pyramidal shape, their branches are very different.Firs (not pictured) can grow as pyramids *and* in the more typical tree shape, but their cones stick up, and their needles are different. If you can't remember which tree is which, please say "conifer" instead of calling everything "pine" or "spruce" or "fir" :D
