@kelbot Just got NES and N64 emus going. Looks like I messed up the Stella installation but I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner or later. Thanks so much!

@stunder @ajroach42 There is a small Radio Shack branded aisle at our local Hobbytown, it’s not much but it’s something. The part I miss the most is those drawers full of components. In the last few years I’ve been lucky enough to find a local industrial electronics supplier that has a small retail storefront, so I’m buying stuff there whenever I can! @mntmn I used to use e3 for this, which was my gateway editor to emacs. Now for a beginner I would have to recommend nano:- On-screen command cheat sheet, no multipart commands (c-o, not c-x c-s)- No switching between modes/accidentally getting stuck in a mode with no clear way to exit- Installed by default on many popular distros, relatively small install size vs. a more full-featured editor.

@kelbot I always forget how scp works, so I sftp back (assuming the port is expose do in the other direction!)Feels less weird than when I have to copy files back across the network between multiple hosts that can only see the next one in line. (Am I at work, or am I playing Telehack?)

@vertigo I always loved how early Macintosh software cleverly credited the people who made it in the About screen. Over time, as teams got larger and Apple started sanitizing the interface down to brushed metal, the names mostly disappeared.Early Macintosh machines had the signatures of the people who created it molded into the inside of the case. As the case was revised, signatures were obscured until the case was changed and they were all gone. I can't help but feel that that's a metaphor.

@djsundog With that kind of play frequency I bet the streaming service just has somebody in the office run and grab the CD whenever somebody clicks on it.

@mgrondin My current go-to space filler is "Made for Windows XP" stickers pulled off of old computers.A small stack of mini post-its might also fit and be more useful.I keep a spare (full-size) SD card in a slot like that on one of my work keyboards.

@mgrondin In my experience with older pis, running on an underpowered adapter shouldn't damage the hardware at all, but I always got the rainbow crash screen every time I taxed the CPU too much, or when I plugged in a USB device that drew too much power. With that close of a rating it's probably close enough though. I really doubt you'd see more crashes at 2.4A vs. 2.5A.

@mgrondin I've noticed recently that shipping services have been getting 'smarter' about expected delivery dates. I've had a lot of packages seem like they were going to arrive early, but then they'd apparently just sit there for a while so they wouldn't arrive before the expected date.

@natecull @vfrmedia Aldi has carts like this in the US, where the common conception is that it's a European idea! If you don't have a quarter you can go inside and ask a cashier to borrow one, I think they're pretty used to it since people don't tend to carry cash or change here either. The last year or so people have been putting carts away but leaving the quarters in them, which is nice if you tend to forget.

@oppen @swansinflight Yeah, it really sounds like it should be called the venture capital lifestyle subsidy, but it's not gonna get as many clicks with a name that doesn't get older people excited and alienate a whole generation.

@daniel I resisted password managers for years but the ability to share passwords with family when necessary finally got me. There's certainly nothing wrong with a notebook as long as you both have access to it, and no one else does.

@ajroach42 Same thing Apple did for iBooks, but much worse because there was already little enough out there for Omnibooks.
