@textfiles having a good sound font made a big difference when listening. Input devices were way too expensive for me. I also enjoyed mod, s3m, tracker and similar files that embedded the samples in the file. The Hornet Archive was a great source of music.

@foone optimizing can be fun. Sometimes it looses readability to optimize.

@benjojo I did lots of work with mpeg 2 transport streams during the big DTV conversion in North America. We had a sample file that had IP packets within it. I think when we used one decoding software program, the packets were attempted to be sent over the Internet when we were testing. I wondered if that might be used for DRM, but it’s not likely.MPEG 4 files that I dealt with were mostly not designed for transport. We were seeing some mpeg 2 streams starting to use MPEG 4 video.

@ricci dns doesn’t work when bgp or mtu breaks things so you can still point at it for not working. AutoMTU often works as do defaults these days though I’ve seen it set wrong statically. BGP is scary and hopefully is used sparingly. When bgp fails, static routes can be built. I know Cisco has a lot of alternative protocols that are technically better like OSPF.True root causes are always a surprise, but “it’s always dns”.

@ricci I agree. It sounds like a dodge. The root I’m guessing is “put people first”. As you indicate, “I’m sorry for your loss”, or putting other appropriate acknowledgement words first shows compassion. Compassion is often what’s missing in bad politics. Compassion can be missing from those trying to fix problems.I’ve seen many good politicians acknowledge loss before pronouncing policy based on it. Well done politics will have both private and public acknowledgments.

@uastronomer @ricci couldn’t fractures in the rocks give a strong enough indication? Maybe it just hadn’t been cataloged, the fracturing was missed, or the scale not noticed?

@mcc agrees. wget had a lot of problems. dash instead of bash was interesting and was criticized.Powershell has had a wget equivalent for quite a while and it makes it easier to quickly use the alternative.

@mcc ubuntu has linux-crashdump. I found these instructions for Debian 12 https://www.cyberciti.biz/faq/how-to-on-enable-kernel-crash-dump-on-debian-linux/It may be possible to USB but I haven’t found how recently. I think it’s changing the console on the boot line, but that doesn’t sound right to me.On IRC I usually answer several questions and am left with no answer to my question. I’ve given up there.

@mcc “reportbug” will likely help you on reporting the kernel bug. https://wiki.debian.org/DebianKernelReportingBugs is a starting point on getting details, but I think you’ve done most of what you can from those (might be worth a double check).

@feld thank you for the article. 🙂Is it fine? It might produce safe food, but what are the other effects? Is “spray drift” a bigger or smaller problem with roundup-ready? I know GMO leakage was a problem. GMO’s may be safe to eat, but do they become next year’s weed? Or weeds for neighbouring fields? How much do they mix with non-GMO crops?I’m ill informed so I appreciate the information, and I want to know more. I learn a lot about farming by following @sarahtaber

@ricci @JustinDerrick have you considered a kettle descaler ball? I’m sure filtering works better, but they seem low effort.

@ricci @JustinDerrick maybe just for my own future reference, I found interesting text about “kettle descaler balls” at the bottom of this website: https://www.accio.com/plp/kettle-descaler-ballsI actually first saw one as a bundle of wires and it was called a “tea witch”.
