100% of public transit should be 100% free at time of use and you can not convince me otherwise.

I just realized that substack dipshit was also the CEO of Kik. Which makes him responsible for the left-pad incident.

Having a bot auto close issues that haven't received activity is the coward's WONTFIX.

Is there any interesting writing on what I conceive of as "the Borland aesthetic" ?The gray frames. The blue backgrounds. Menu text with the red letter indicating a hot key. Modal dialogs with drop shadows. According to Wikipedia 2.0 in 1987 was the first blue screen version of Borland Turbo C. Did Borland originate this?

So far the most aesthetically similar things I have found are QBasic and dialog. Both of which originated in the 90s. Dialog is an interesting evolution because it creates depth by rendering boxes with 2 white borders and 2 black borders. Creating either an inset or offset effect.

Advertising isn't inevitable, it's a thing that was invented, it became the dominant funding model on the web because it appears to have no cost to the user and it doesn't appear to interfere with the free and open access principles of the early web.It actually has significant cost to users, we pay in time, privacy, experience, and security. It's eroded the free and open web, spawned walled gardens whose only goal is to capture more of the user's time.

FYI I am completely uninterested in discussing how cryptocurrency/web3 — a thing that does not solve any problems — can solve this problem.

The choice between unfettered capitalism and *checks notes* unfettered capitalism for weird nerds is no choice at all.
