If you are going to a protest, consider not bringing a phone with you. But if you do bring one along, there are some steps you can take to minimize your risks.I helped update The Markup's guide originally published in 2020:https://themarkup.org/the-breakdown/2024/05/04/how-do-i-prepare-my-phone-for-a-protest-updated-2024

@futurebird @streetsblognyc yeah looks like it’s a bridge account from Twitter, so we just get cross posted stuff. It’s somewhat surprising that there are boosts mixed in as well, but I think they really aren’t able to see any replies or order engagement since it’s not really them posting.

TL;DR (quoted from the article)- Personal devices only- Don’t leak from work, on a work device, or from work Wi-Fi- Use Signal and Signal’s camera- The reporter should recreate any image you leak before displaying it to the publichttps://www.niemanlab.org/2025/04/how-to-leak-to-a-journalist/#Journalism #Democracy

“The reason you should care about this is not that it could happen to you but that it is already happening to others. It is happening to people who, we claim, have rights just because we are human. It is happening to me, personally.” —M. Bonus tip: if you’re leaking an image with faces in it, Signal’s camera has a convenient feature to blur them.

Happy Charles Nalle Rescue Day! “The moment they appeared, Harriet roused from her stooping posture, threw up a window, and cried to her friends: ‘Here he comes—take him!’ and then darted down the stairs like a wild-cat. She seized one officer and pulled him down, then another, and tore him away from the man; and keeping her arms about the slave, she cried to her friends: ‘Drag us out! Drag him to the river! Drown him! but don't let them have him!’”https://www.pbs.org/wgbh/aia/part4/4h2947t.html
