@vik Sounds like the "Nuremberg Defense". There again, if one doesn't know history, it all sounds quite reasonable, performed by reasonable (and nice) people...

@vik Hah!I was hoping that had missed something in the docs giving a means of making 𝐛𝐨𝐥𝐝 pronouncements, and similar, eg Ctrl-B or *enclosing*.Interesting to know that copy-paste works, though.(cheating is OK, but laziness trumps all!)

@vik Which leads me to wonder: if the census reveals proportions of #kiwis who are Christian, Maori, Jedi, etc; then will parliamentary and local council sessions be opened with prayer, karakia, and whatever (?meditation) according to the same percentages?

@john PS I am not your #python #partypooper Was helping friend install #PyCharm. Working through the myriad settings, noted that one can use Postfix Completion or Live Templates to convince the IDE to translate what you said into what you meant!?macro expansionsNot something I've bothered to utilise or learn to-date.Sadly, the former requires a prefix (hah!) dot/period, and the latter demands press Tab afterwards.https://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/settings-postfix-completion.htmlhttps://www.jetbrains.com/help/pycharm/using-live-templates.html#live_templates_typesI will, if you will...

@john It's a little known fact, that a certain entertainer with a thick German (Austrian) accent has difficulty pronouncing many English words. The line "I'll be back" came from his inability to correctly enunciate "I will retrun"!

@vik ...and they talk about being local and "even more money to invest...in New Zealand". One/Vodafone is owned by Infratil and Brookfield. The latter is (wait for it) a Canadian outfit. Is the width and length of the Pacific still "local"? If so, will we have local-dialing with our "local" mates in N.America any time soon?https://news.vodafone.co.nz/vodafone-new-zealand-to-become-one-new-zealand

@vik the day the number of people allowed to vote (more than) doubled!Wonder how many people are voting today (local government elections) compared to how many voted back-then - absolute numbers (percentages are a foregone conclusion).

@lightweight When the whole of the Auckland CBD was left without power for some weeks (cascade failure of the (only!) three feeder-lines supplying the city by AEPB) a ship was moored at the bottom of Queen Street and acted as a generating station.

@lightweight The question answers itself - these are the same organisations (and their leaders) who flout any ethical consideration of paying their share in a local jurisdiction. It is easier for politicians to bask in the reflected-glory of 'inward investment' than it is for 'the average bloke' to realise how much is the outflow during the following years.Organisations attempting this feat (in increasing order of efficacy), UN, OECD, EU. None expect to achieve in the short-medium term!

@lightweight You (personally) may have experienced the lack of reciprocal Tax Agreements when applied to individual income. The list of countries most reluctant to negotiate and offer such, probably aligns closely with those depending upon multi-nationals for their political-funding.(contrarily, try to open a bank account, without feeling a suspicion that they expect you to have 'money-laundering' intent)A discussion (40+ pp) at https://oxfordtax.web.ox.ac.uk/files/tpiage-3-current-regimepdf
