@LoZab61 This was very much part of the rhetoric used to support #Brexit.

@KimPerales #KingGeorge as you know him - #George the Third as we do - had #JohnWilkes expelled several times from the #HouseofCommons. It did not end well - except for #JohnWilkes himself - who was returned several times and later was #lordmayoroflondon !One would have thought the #Scopes "monkey trial" would be enough for the reputation of Tennessee!

@wjmaggos It is all about suppressing critical and nuanced thought and promoting bigotry through groupthink on both sides. A dispiriting and thankless task to respond to it but not everyone on either side will be a provocateur or have an entirely closed mind. Or so one. has to hope. Do not give up.

@wjmaggos Slightly more plausible anyway than the story about #davidcameron having been fellated by a dead pig while at #oxford #University

@EU_Commission This is entirely the right thing to do. There can be no hierarchy of victims of genocide.

@AnthonyFStevensClearly some degree of equivalence although more so on the right than the left. Prorogation of parliament in 2019 by the #Conservatives and subsequent attempts to intimidate parliament fit the bill reasonably well. The case against the left a lot weaker although not lacking entirely.

@AnthonyFStevensIn my view the result in December 2019 was rather overdetermined. #labour failed to respond organisationally to June 2017 as well as the #Conservatives did - and that is a charge against #Corbyn and to some extent #momentum .However even if they had - given the games the #libdems and the #snp were playing - not to mention the sheer amount of disinformation #tacticalvoting websites were putting out it would have at best reduced the size of the #conservative majority!

@AnthonyFStevens With regard to the #snp you have a good point. At least in the short term their tactics in 2019 paid off. The same cannot be said to apply to the #libdems - who were guilty of "hubristic incompetence" on an industrial scale. Their approach did not gain them seats overall but helped to lose #labour around twenty or thirty. And of course some of those operating #tacticalvoting websites may have been actual "bad faith actors".

@wjmaggosAn entertaining and instructive map. Please note that on the eastern side of the Atlantic ocean what you call "Sour" beer is referred to as "bitter". A bit of a translation/usage issue!

@wjmaggos There is a similar pattern with regard to #vaccination and deaths in the #uk - according to "more or less" on #radio4 last Wednesday.

For exactly the same reason as I find myself justifying Muslim fears of ethnic cleansing in the light of what has happened in Bosnia and Rakhine and why I am being taken to task currently for suggesting that a second Nakba is a more immediate risk than a second holocaust.I am also aware that the use of the word genocide can incur penalties in some jurisdictions and within some political organisations.

@cainmark Shortly after the end of the #RomanEmpire in the West someone appears to have found a way to glaze the interior of pottery . The effect of this was to render large jars used to transport olive oil, wine etc. reusable. The result was that the previous piles of discarded and broken jars disappear from the archaeological record. A minor but significant example of this effect.

@makkhorn That was the original definition of a "dictator" in Roman law as distinct from any other official. All other officials could be prosecuted for their actions and often were! However a "dictator" was not normally allowed to serve for more than six months.

@Lassielmr @fkamiah17There is also a lot of influence exercised through the #georgian #orthodox #church which I understand to be linked to the #moscow #patriarchate rather than the one in #istanbul ..

@wjmaggos @Lassielmr @fkamiah17A coup from either side ahead of the parliamentary elections scheduled there for later this year would be wrong. Far better that the elections are scrutinised to ensure that they are free and fair. As someone who visited #georgia a score of years ago I can remember just how economically ruinous for #georgia the security policy of #russia in the #northcaucasus was. It destroyed the export trade in fresh fruit and vegetables to #russia #georgia had relied on .

@wjmaggosUntil very recently quite a lot of them - especially in #europe - did give special rights to such people. Sometimes they still do - try being a #muslim in places in #italy - most recently #monfalcone - and see if you get treated equally! Or be #roma or #sinti almost anywhere and see what happens ! And #uk immigration and nationality law introduced the concept of 'patriality' more than fifty years ago.

@wjmaggos Perhaps when they see large number of police injured in the line of duty as a result of disinformation as has occurred in #aldershot , #hartlepool , #london and #southport over the last few days!
