Millions of books were destroyed in the process of scanning them to feed “AI” databases. You have no idea how upset this makes me. To me Email is nearly the perfect delivery mechanism for most stuff, but with the proliferation of IM chats, especially on phones, I find myself more and more often "can you just send me all this info and files over email please?"

Would be pretty funny if the story behind Virtual Boy re-release is that someone at Nintendo warehouses bumped into a bunch of old boxes full of unsold Virtual Boy from back in the day, asked HQ what to do and they went "I gotta an idea".

Unreal blueprints being binary is kinda of a weird decision. Generally speaking I think binaries during development is terrible for ControlVersion. How are teams handling this large scale, the good old “file lock”?

I'll admit once in a while I think "what if I start using Twitter again?" (only Mastodon/bluesky atm), but the few times I've opened that site in last year I feel like I need to take a shower with bleach. Is the "but it's the best one for marketing games/work" even still valid in all that noise?

RIP notifications :)A lot are asking "ok which alternatives?". Indeed there's nothing quite exactly like Discord and that's the scary part of them going public, they convinced tons of companies to ditch blogs/forums in favor of them. But because there's no exact replacement doesn't mean we should wait and see. Investigate! (some are in comments suggesting stuff) Remember Twitter and others stuff we had to leave when it was too late to slowly build momentum elsewhere. That's what I'm getting at.

I think the reason why so many devs are still drawn to C or "idea of C" is eventually everyone want a change of pace, simpler times with no fancy editors, tons of software, or gigantic stack of per-existing frameworks to consider; just you, a KB and a blank canvas to type code. you'll get there.

IMO Nokia falling out of the top phone companies was a big loss, they kept coming up with weird new interfaces every year, trying to shake up things. Now everyone copies iPhone which is roughly the same design since 2007, just bigger screens and camera.

TIL that SSDs can lose data if left unplugged for long periods of time (only required to hold data up to 1 year), unlike HDDs which as long as the material holds it can take years.
