@freemo @meeper @nova @sarvo @waifu This sort of thing is why I'm against shared blocklists. The practice is too open to abuse and too difficult to correct if there is a mistake. And it poisons the well ...

@Chronotope @nova No, it's overly broad. It blocks benign instances like qoto alongside actually bad places.

@bonifartius @Chronotope @nova I'm not letting some random individual somewhere unilaterally decide for me who is a Good Boy and who is a Bad Boy based on their own fallible opinions and opaque criteria. π

@bonifartius The marketing is silly but I don't mind the skinning. I just wish Mozilla would stop introducing and then canceling new projects all the time. I used some of them (like their cloud file hosting) but now I'm so sure they'll cancel it that I don't bother to entertain any new efforts. "Colorways" are fine. I even play around with them. But I'm sure they'll be gone in a few iterations. That bothers me more than the marketing.

Some people seem to want to use #contentWarnings for everything, I.e. as content headers instead, and others seem annoyed by that practice.I'm trying to fit in with whatever culture was supposedly here before I arrived but there doesn't seem to be a consensus on what that culture was soI think I'll just stick to using content warnings as warnings instead of headers. If you want them to be used as headers, get them renamed to something that doesn't have the word "warning" in it.

Have been wrestling with it all night and can get neither the gdm3 nor the lightdm GUI to work with my #Xubuntu installation on this old laptop.Tried purging, updating and reinstalling both, to no avail.I am going to give some other #Linux distros a chance now.

@freemo It's for the best. It always hurts communities when they grow too quickly. A few growth spurts here and there is good. Unchecked growth is cancerous.

1) The shadow across your face makes the photo look unprofessional.2) If everyone else is looking at the camera, you should be looking at the camera.

@darnell @pbx This is the one I thought of, too. It's the most comprehensive (publicly/freely available) database, AFAIK.

I expect Google to be freaking out about #chatGPT. It answers many questions better than they do, especially now that they've stuffed the first page of search results with ads. Alexa and Siri weren't that much of a threat, given Amazon's limited intrusion on Google interests and Apple's limited marketshare, but if people can ask a chatbot for better, more comprehensive, more creative, more synthesized answers than they can get out of Google's search results ...

Speaking of Google failure ... I had to turn off Google Discover on my Android phone because it wouldn't heed my interests ("Not interested in Sports") and started inserting sponsored ads into the feed. Advertising will kill Google eventually.
