@brian @kevin @mainichi That's a relief. And remember kids: always agree on a non-verbal safeword!

@brian @kevin Even surprisingly monogamous people are allowed to engage in a bit of playful consensual breathplay every once in a while…

@brian @kevin Fucktours *also* can be engaged in, in a monogamous context. Or so I'm told.

@brian @kevin If travelling with a partner cannot *also* be a fucktour, then you are doing it wrong™

@simon A huge feature of *good* code, is being both efficient (to write and run) *and* highly readable.This generally means striking the right balance between concision and obfuscation.What you are describing, sounds a bit like the code equivalent of using AI to write endless verbose research papers, coated around small nuggets of results. Not sure that would be pleasant to read in either case…

A striking visualisation of #climatechange: the date of Kyoto cherry blossoms' reaching full bloom, plotted over the past 1000 years.Thanks to the cultural significance of cherry blossoms in Japan, we have data on the specific day of the year when a very particular species of cherry blossom (P. jamasakura) reached "full-flowering" (満開) in a specific area on the outskirts of Kyoto (Arashiyama), all the way back to 800 AD.The trend of the past 50 years is hard to miss…

Most of the data was painstakingly collected and analysed by Prof. Aono and his collaborators: http://atmenv.envi.osakafu-u.ac.jp/aono/kyophenotemp4/The full-bloom date for 2023 (yesterday: the 29th), was confirmed by local resident and friend, Aya. (bc the data refers to a very specific species and location, they do not match official JMA reports)

@simon A reasonably pragmatic option. Unfortunately undercut by the efforts of a sizeable portion of the LLM crowd (including more than a few clowns at OpenAI) to present LLMs ("AI") as merely a few incremental improvements short of AGI.I would go one step stronger and state that LLMs are not AGI, *nor will they ever be*. (I admit this is a controversial, and potentially risky, statement)

@simon I hear you, and I think the conflation of LLMs and AGI, in addition to being scientific nonsense, does a disservice to the field: focusses people's attention on non-problems (Skynet taking over the world), while ignoring real problems/limitations (training bias replicating social problems, generative models' inability to build logic-based representations…)People pushing LLMs to be viewed as the first step toward AGI, are generally doing so out of either naivety or greed.

In what world does indiscriminately detonating 3000 devices scattered across a civilian population not constitute plain. simple. state-sponsored terrorism?!At what point do milquetoast hardcore-centrist western media outlets drop the "explosions were had, children were unalived" phrasing and call it for what it is??#israel

@futurebird Oh, sorry! That completely flew over my head (I know there are some harebrained humanoid "assistant" robots being demoed out there, which are indeed hilariously bad mechanical turk setups, and it didn't feel like a big jump that there'd already be some beta users of such a service 😅 )
