@neilFrom what i understand bluetooth privacy is pretty good on smartphones now (maybe not on old/cheap devices?) and doesnt provide any unique persistant identifier? And why not just turn bluetooth off when not using it?Anyway it feels wrong to just give into all the advertising/marketing bs @gme

@gme @neil Theres also pretty good wifi privacy on decent modern phones - which took addressing persistent identifiers other than the MAC address.Pixels and other decent phones spoof a different mac address to each wifi network, so you can be recognised (eg. for the network at a place of work) GrapheneOS changed it so the default is a different mac every time you connect.

@gme I dont really use bluetooth for anything.Very few people I know do either (poorer and/or less tech dazzled folks largely living out of the cities).Smart watches still arent that common. That and cars have to be the main pushes for regular use of BT. Lots of people dont ever use any type of headphones with their phone.

@gme well almost absolute 😁(couldnt think of a better word and was being lazy) guess my point is that theres likely a whole load more folks (and shops) in the world, than you imagine, that dont fit your presumption of whats very common

@fitheach Sounds like you going to have fun!Get as high as possible so you can take branches down in smaller, easier to control, pieces.Best use a decent hand saw to go through stuff as thick as you can manage/be bothered (you have a spare hand to keep hold of and control the bit you are cutting off) rather than a chainsaw.

@blaine @voxpelli @KevinMarks @darius @evan The folks over at @bonfire have been doing some interesting work. They've built permissions/circles functionality into their modular/extendible activitypub server. Also theres the federated social network imvestigations/dev work that @mike has been doing for many long years. #Zot protocol had permissions baked in from the beginning

@madargon Ive seen gallery apps that have their own trashbin function. Some of them them keep the files in the same folder but put a . at the front of the file name so its default hidden from some gallery and file manager apps.

@richard4444 @matty01 Ive been using Android for about ten years, always with a custom ROM or alternative OS. Also set up some for friends.Ive never had any terrible problems, but i stick to open source apps. Had far more pain with some updates on linux PCsBeen on GrapheneOS for around 7 years. Its ace.The new(ish) sandboxed Google Play allows you to get most apps from the Play Store running fine.https://grapheneos.org/features#sandboxed-google-play

@sp6inaHave you seen how much Google code is contributed to the linux kernel?Pinephones are cheap hardware that no longer get CPU microcode, firmware etc. updates (i dont know that pinephone has ever offered these? fair chance allwinner werent offering them to vendors when the pinephones launched). The desktop linux userspace is far from optomised for phone use (eg. battery use)GrapheneOS is open source. It gives a great phone experience, top notch privacy & security @matty01 @richard4444

@teajaygreyDont think anyone properly did the math on a biodiesel promise? The land required for it to replace diesel fuel usage makes it an unrealistic promiseIn a sustained societal collapse fertilizer & herbicide supply chain collapse would make the big focus growing food. Guess some tractors would be run on biodiesel?Non-collapse - We do transportation & energy so stupidly. Especially in richer nations. So much waste!@hal_pomeranz @Wen @bifrosty2k @Alienated53 @luis_in_brief @chu

@teajaygreyWe can build houses that require no heating here in the UK. Twenty years ago zero carbon housing legislation was passed with years to comply then just before it was due to be enforced it was scrapped by the Conservatives https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2015/jul/10/uk-scraps-zero-carbon-home-targetTransport. Basing it around the private car?!?All those big cars doing journeys with 1 person onboard. All those resources making cars that sit around unused most the time?@hal_pomeranz @Wen @bifrosty2k @Alienated53 @luis_in_brief @chu
