@art if I could get Ableton to run smoothly under wine I could ditch my hackintosh dual boot and not worry about it

@kev have you looked at the web monetisation API? Or the brave browser rewards? I'm not sure how I feel about these personally, but nice to see alternative models being developed.

@thumb have you tried one of those power hats that adds a button for safely shutting down the pi without corrupting the sd card?

@thumb I'm going to order one for mine. Which did you go for? I'm thinking of getting a Samsung evo

This 8gb #raspberrypi with an nvme SSD is pretty sweet. Probably could have got a decent secondhand computer for the amount I've spent now... But this is definitely more fun.

Please stop with the auto playing videos that cover part of the screen on mobile, when I'm trying to read an article on your news site. I'm trying to ignore the video, it seems irrelevant. Just let me read the article I was linked to. This is total disrespect for your users.

Today I learned that zip unpacking requires random access. So it can't be used with streaming in node.js without buffering the whole file. My use case involves downloading data file using the master.zip from a GitHub repo URL. Can I get a different archive format? One that is compatible with streaming and pipe in node?

@tomosaigon I can get a zip from GitHub by adding archive/master.zip on the end of the repo URL. Is there similar for gzip?

@bumbervevo in Ableton you can use a combination of midi filters to make pretty piano noises with only one key 😋

I rescued an old computer from the dump. Thinking of restoring it and giving away or selling. It's an old core i3. I think if I replace the hard drive with an SSD it would be usable for someone?

@jordan31 I upgraded my main computer gfx card recently so I have a spare gtx 770 I can stick in it. It's an i3 2nd gen. So quite old but dual core 3.1Ghz with hyperthreading... And it does have 8GB memory. I've started cleaning it up. The fans were clogged up with dust and the CPU heatsink needed a good clean too.

@djsumdog I haven't tried Scala actually. That's a good call. Rust seems like a fave. I was thinking Go because all the Kubernetes stuff is Go.

@kev thanks for the tips. I'm in the process of reviewing my own site. And I've definitely picked up some good ideas from this. Thank you!

@mike I was thinking the biggest innovation was the power consumption to performance ratio

@mike I've been using an M1 Mac mini and the performance is impressive. So, I'm hopeful for the pro/max versions. I just can't justify spending nearly £4k on a machine right now 😕

Is there a #programming language that combines the best of #golang and #rust ? I.e. statically typed, compiled to small executables, algebraic type system, garbage collection, concurrency primitives (channels and lightweight threads), small language, great standard library, great tooling?
