       @lauren So surely this is just some science experiment or weather ballon gone rogue. All this media speculation just doesn’t make sense. Bearing in mind the images you can buy from commercial services how much of an improvement could a ballon offer? Do they need to read someone’s hand written notes left out in the open? No makes no sense for it to be military. Maybe it’s one of those Japanese ballon bombs left over from WW2.

       @lauren Yet when it comes to piracy or performing rights issues they all managed to come up with the technical solutions that seem very effective. When you look at how effective LLMs are it does seem that this is just a matter of cost and will power.

       @tero I’m not sure we don’t already have AGI. The scientific American article where a psychologist tested GPT4 IQ at 155. Top 1%. The Microsoft paper that was originally titled “First contact with AGI” and then renamed and toned down. Sam Altman’s apparent slip of the tongue when he has referred to GPT 4 as AGI in some of his recent long form interviews. My anecdotal experience is it seems pretty capable. Lacks initiative, at the moment but is that needed. Seems pretty clever.

       @dave Yeah it’s coming. GPT is likely to be your UI and a whole bunch of other apps and specialist AIs are going to be giving it answers and doing stuff. Or even one central GPT calling other GPTs in some sort of task oriented hierarchy. There seems to be a lot of potential in these models for loosely defined use cases. I think you will get what you want in a couple of months/weeks or days.
