@locuta @david Very likely. Another problem with all these companies, pretty much every corporation, is that they depend on infinite growth. There's no such thing. Facebook has hit a wall for growth, the only place to go is down.

@internetarchive The funny thing is, I don't go out of my way to search on Internet Archive that often, I just end up there sometimes when doing regular web searches. It's just weirdly useful on occasion. Idk if any of that makes sense.

@skobkin @torvalds As an artist, that's my problem with all the AI image hate. There are lots of reasons to be wary of it and the people developing AI, but the complaints about it learning from art without permission is, as you say, ironic.

@skobkin @torvalds I think AI generated imagery is a tool with a lot of potential. I've been working with for my art, and it's pretty cool and a lot of fun. Bots and search engines using AI, that's a whole other ball of wax. So far, I don't see how any benefit will outweigh the amount of damage it will do. Bad actors will use it to generate reams of garbage SEO articles and politically motivated misinformation to make the internet more and more useless. It's what I call #internetkesslersyndrome

@skobkin @torvalds And there's the whole job issue. The problem here is, who does the AI benefit? As far as I can tell, it will be used by capitalists to abuse the system even more and rake in more money. Do these tools exist to make all of our lives better, or just the rich? No one thinks of these things before they drop technologies of mass destruction, as if progress exists for itself, and not people. I'm not worried about Skynet, the real problem is Cyberdyne.

@lowqualityfacts Hm, I'm not sure about that. I'm positive that at least 70% is produced by gravel road dust. The dirtier your car, the more oxygen you're getting. I think I read that on Wikipedia.

@lowqualityfacts While I get it, the US is just a step backwards from corporations singing the praises of neo-nazis and lynchings. They will do anything for money, and as states institute more bigoted and fascist laws, companies will be more and more inclined to jump on that bandwagon.

I don't do much #fanart stuff but I love #Quake (the 1st). Because there was never a fancy, deluxe big box (there was a sparse retail one) version, I decided to make my own. Made of cardboard, #papermache & acrylic paint. It includes a hand-drawn manual, USB thumb drive shaped like the gold base key, and a Shub-niggurath miniature. I even made the preview images in the style of "edgy" #1990s #games ads and the Digipak release design. It was a lot of fun! Btw, that URL is dead. #crafts

I've been working on a #comic off and on for a number of years. I think I'll start posting it. Not here though, I'll make a dedicated account. It was originally titled "City of Zargis" but that limits the scope. The story and universe is much bigger than the starting location. The new title is "The Spiral Highway".
