@stux Wouldn’t the same thing happen if people on different mastodon instances voted on the same poll at the same time?

Prototyping a Fediverse client for #AppleTV with a screensaver-like experience centered around hashtags, using #SwiftUI and #TootSDK. I'm amazed by how good some of the photo- and art-centric hashtags are for just picking a tag and watching images go by on the big screen#AppDev #tvOS #iOSDev

#iOSDev issue update: I made a minimal example. As far as I can tell, when you animate passing different images to an Image view, #SwiftUI on iOS 17 animates the size/shape of the new image for some reason. With `.resizable()` and `.aspectRatio(contentMode:)` modifiers (the intended way to fit images in a frame according to the documentation), this causes it to stretch bizarrely (without those modifiers, it slides around instead!)Here's the same code running on iOS 16 (left) and 17 (right)

@clive Anecdotally, I’ve noticed (in TX) that pedestrians rarely wait for the walk signal or even look before they cross anymore. Doesn’t matter if they have their phone out or not, they just amble into fast moving traffic, completely unaware.During the day, drivers can see them on the sidewalks and anticipate when they’ll cross, but at night you often can’t see them until they’re in the road. More *focused* streetlights and headlights make this worse because less light reaches the sidewalk.

@clive Also seems like pedestrian signals at crosswalks are unmaintained and permanently malfunctioning – either they don’t give long enough to cross safely, give the walk signal when it isn’t safe (like when a turn lane has the green), stay on “don’t walk” forever, or are permanently out of order. The call buttons (even if not smashed by vandals) NEVER do anything.Curiously given when the increase in deaths started, it looks like the US mandated major changes to crosswalk signals in 2009.

For those tempted to argue about the impracticality of implementing my tongue-in-cheek mockup:Imagine, instead of the silly alert message, a simple toggle in privacy settings “allow others who have me in their contacts to share my information with apps”If it’s switched on, it flips a bit on a server that the other person’s OS can check, just like how it checks if you’ve set up iMessage etc.The point wasn’t the UI, it’s that other people’s info shouldn’t be yours to give out to apps

There might even be another solution here that doesn’t require any UI at all: by default, let apps access only the contacts where:1. both people have each other in their contacts,2. both have the app installed, and3. each already agreed to share their OWN info with that app.Would prevent apps from spamming invites to people who don’t have the app, or getting the info of people who never consented to the app having it. Legitimate communication apps wouldn’t need to ask for contacts anymore.

A lot of the SwiftUI stuff that released and worked ok in iOS 18.0 was broken in later point releases. By 18.3 or so, many of that year’s SwiftUI features had gained visual/animation glitches, if they still worked at all. (looking at you, sidebar adaptable tab view! FB16443811 and FB16443879 showed up sometime around 18.1 I think, and still aren’t fixed)If you think iOS 26 looks like it’s going to release in a bad state now (and it does), just wait six months or so!

@futurebird Maybe I’m cynical, but I think this company paid someone to deface the ads as a publicity stunt and that’s why the ads have so much white space. All the “defaced” ones I’ve seen in pics are “defaced” with the same sentiment in similar handwriting.Would they get as much (or any) attention if they weren’t getting “defaced”? Probably not.

@futurebird Ehh, maybe.“The goal, he says, [is] to provoke a cultural debate about what counts as friendship in the age of artificial intelligence.”Not to build sympathy, but to prime people to talk about it by writing clever things on the ads that they knew people would agree with. Otherwise the entire product is so far out there it begs to be ignored
