@killyourfm Hmm interesting book, will have to look into it. I still haven't actually tried Aviation, have never really drank all that much gin.

@killyourfm Very nice. Trying to get back into reading more again, gone through stages the last like 4 years where I read a ton for a while and then barely do. Want to try and even that out a little bit.Seems like a good book to start with, thanks :)

@jeff @y3mz @lattera Actually, rather than the vps with proxy, you could also look at https://tailscale.com/blog/introducing-tailscale-funnel/ which was just announced. I've been thinking of testing it out on a mastodon instance and seeing how it does. Might do that tonight / this weekend.

@jeff @y3mz @lattera It is brand new and still in alpha (have to apply but there is a link in the blog and i got accepted immediately) so it could explode still I suppose. Still, fun to look at something new from Tailscale, their other stuff is interesting.Side note, renaming a tailnet gives some amusing options like skunk-anaconda.ts.net and quetzal-goblin.ts.net lol

@stux The big advantage of pgbouncer is in reusing connections to reduce that overhead of recreating connection to the database over and over again.

@stux Same company now owns mstdn.jp, mastodon.cloud and Pawoo.net so the states of all three and any more they buy is not going to improve it seems.

@john They were afraid of people donating the fees to @Tibor to keep it active would be my guess.

@stux Good luck with it lolThough to be fair to it, in my testing it seems to be mastodon taking forever to send the request is why it makes the translation seem so derpy.Mastodon seems to wait to send it then times out very quickly after, giving the translate very little time to work.

@stux Sidenote: If you are running it via docker, unless they've reworked the dockerfile, it would download the translation libraries every time it started up and if you have every language enabled, it takes a while.I ended up mapping /home/libretranslate/.local/cache/argos-translate and /home/libretranslate/.local/share/argos-translate to directories so contents would survive a restart of the docker and added a crontab to update them once a day.

@stux Docker was quick to test for me and didn't seem to be the issue, it was just Mastodon waiting like 95% of the time, sending command then going welp your translation bit sucks when libre translate couldn't get the request, process and spit it back instantly lol

@teamtuck That is one reason I like running things in Docker. Point configs at a dir, backup that dir on host, rebuild when needed :)
