@raccoon I'm not very familiar with many visual novels. But I did post about Roots of Pacha last night. If you enjoy farming sims at all, it's a really great cozy, feel good game.

@raccoon no, never did. Couldn't find any answers online. Not really sure what else I can do since for some reason CSV files aren't allowed to be uploaded and Mastodon (or Pawb at least) doesn't have any other export options.

PSA in case you weren't aware. I know that this word gets used a lot in Linux spaces to refer to DE customization, but the term "rice" has racist origins derogatory towards Asians.Would be really cool to find a better term in this case.https://lemmy.blahaj.zone/post/32468060 #linux

@raccoon I don't think the context matters very much here. Being as I am not Asian, I don't think it's my call to say it's not offensive. The term started in the car space first referring to cars of Asian make, then later would also be used to refer to cars with oversized exterior customization, so it has spread to the "customization" space and I don't see any logical way to say jumping from one medium to another makes it any less racist.

@raccoon @fiore@shrimptest.bedwetting.club Correct. It was used there first. And it was used to refer to cars of Asian make specifically as a derogatory term.

@fiore@shrimptest.bedwetting.club @raccoon@hollow.raccoon.quest it really is a testament to how insidiously racist terms spread by the unwitting. I always thought it was a bit weird, but, didn't suspect racism. It was just slang and slang is usually weird. It just meant customization; I never once would've said it to be demeaning to Asians.Similarly to "gyped." Which always just meant "getting ripped off." Never once was a Romani person in my mind when I said it, but still I later learned that word was racist and never once used it again, save to explain its racism.

@raccoon @fiore@shrimptest.bedwetting.club I appreciate your integrity! If you look at the comments in that Lemmy post, a lot of people are getting butt hurt about it like it's some personal attack on them.

@raccoon @lukyan@lukyan.eu Now *I'm* learning! Is "gimp" a slur? I always knew it in the BDSM context.

@snow@beasts.life @raccoon@hollow.raccoon.quest @lukyan@lukyan.eu Yes, intent matters, but it doesn't matter more than the effect the word has. Does it?

@mynameistillian@plush.city @cody@catboy.baby @solonovamax@tech.lgbt @mir@ice.ch3.st IQ was originally created to help schools figure out which students should test well and which ones would need more help. It was never intended to be used as a measure of intelligence. But of course, once rich, white assholes figured out that people of color would undoubtedly have lower IQ scores due to living in poorer neighborhoods with poorer schooling, it of course because yet another tool to denigrate and degrade them and make it seem like they were just "naturally less intelligent."Worse still, it wasn't even all that useful for its supposed original intention anyway. IQ is just bad, top to bottom. Intelligence is not a linear concept.

@raccoon if this is just due to Mozilla's general fuckary, Waterfox does exist on Android (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.waterfox.android.release&hl=en-IN&pli=1), though sadly seems to be unavailable on iOS at the moment.

So, I was having a discussion with a friend regarding dogs when he brought up the fact that the term "husky" is derived from "eskimo," which to my understanding is a derogatory term for the Inuit people. Meaning my first question is: should we maybe then find another name for these dogs? Is there already another name I'm unaware of? "Arctic sled dog" seems good if that's not already in use and I'm just unaware. Or is the name "husky" fine with the Inuit people? The second thing is, the etymology section on the Wikipedia article is referring to the northern native tribes as the "pre-Colombian Arctic Inhabitants." Which seems like an awful lot of words to just avoid calling them "native tribes." This is apparently the scholarly term, but I'm aware that this doesn't make it any less colonial nor racist if it is. In the interest of avoiding White Knighting, I would also like to ask: is my intuition correct here? Or am I tripping over stones?

I'm also unsure of how to tag this post to get it seen by more appropriate parties and less by unwanted ones, so if you know someone who's Native American, especially Inuit, please link them or ask them and share their reply (though their direct answer in the form of a screenshot would be preferable), or if you know of a good tag, just comment with the tag.

@tilton@fursuits.online Yeah. I had a lot of appreciation for Warner Brother's adding a disclaimer to classic Loony Toons just admitting that it was wrong and not trying to act like they weren't fucking racist. Much better than ignoring it or trying to erase it.Eat crow and learn. That's all we want.

At the suggestion of a friend, I am making this #fediblock post to inform people about the user Christi Junior (@ christijunior@fsebugoutzone.org) and the instance attached to the user. The night before this post, the user attempted to rage bait me and attached an insanely racist political cartoon while the instance they're on is, by its name, a self-avowed Free Speech Extremist instance.

@sendpaws@mitra.pawslut.party @m0xEE@breloma.m0xee.net my experience, Northstar servers have been dead since they finally fixed the live ones. Which... Kinda sucks, cause I liked the persistent servers.
