@fribbledom The more data you have the bigger the target you become for a hack. The bigger the liability as you can get sued if you get caught mishandling the data and the harder you have to work to make sense of that data. More is not always better...

@lunduke Pity. I'd love to do the survey but I rather not visit Google sites. I block google domains in my /etc/hosts file too. But I love the idea man!

@lunduke Hi Lunduke and co. I've been wondering that as the neck-beards of yester year begin to disappear and be replaced by neck ties and as more commercial interests takeover the opensource landscape what do you think the future of pure community, tinkerers, freedom fighters and the GNU is? do you see a fork of Linux coming, not just the Kernel but a new OS that will try resist the pull of money. Not saying money is bad but it changes things. Where is linux heading? Can there be too many blobs?

@purism give back more to projects I can't live without, including the free software conservancy.

@fatboy My experience is that Fedora plays best with Gnome DE. I even got Plank dock working in it when Plank itself says it only works under Xorg! I haven't been able to get plank working on Wayland on any other distro. Goes ti show how good its X compatibility is.

@fatboy Also check out Pipewire. Waylands new low latency audio/video server project. Sounds mega promising. Designed to take over the need to have jack on top of pulse on top of alsa! why have a stack of 3 when 1 will do.

@Main_Tomato Some people can't afford to purchase things like computer games due to circumstances beyond their control. If it wasn't for piracy they'd be locked out of the experience and may never have grown up to be computer game creators, etc. I don't blame them for having to turn to piracy. However if everything was open source that wouldn't be such an issue.

@Main_Tomato It takes guts to carve out a unique place in this world that doesn't fit in with the norm. Sometimes it is thrust upon us due to things beyond our control. But everyone has to make the decision how much to follow the norm or how much to be unique. I find the best thing to do is have as little needs as possible (to be content) so you don't have to work too much to get by. Then you have more time to do what you really love.

@fatboy @Meeper I recommend VOID with a desktop pre-configured. The MATE version is great. LXDE runs a tad faster though. The pre-configured desktop takes all the stress out of setup.

@fatboy @Meeper Let me know how it goes. I've heard some mention they had issues with the XFCE version. If you have issues try the LXDE version and then install XFCE. I installed VOID from scratch the first time I ran it. It was a difficult but very educational experience. It gave me so much more control over my linux use. I found it ran pretty quick, the package manger is awesome with heaps of apps. I recommend installing OCTOxbps to make package management easy:"sudo xbps-install -Su octoxbps"

@Main_Tomato Maybe they should release digital cameras that can make calls? I think that's where they're heading... (ps. joke ;)

Now that all the major libre/ open source projects are being sponsored by giant companies with questionable ethics I no longer know where to go.Linux foundation = Microsoft FSF = Google sponsoredFSC = sameGnome = sameOBS = Facebook and TwitterUbuntu = MS, (AMAZON)Red hat = IBMSuse Linux = EQT PartnersManjaro = Going commercialQT = same.... I'm not saying this is all bad. But it does change the landscape for better or worse. Is Linux too successful?

@fatboy I think the mobile version of firefox removed the 'about:config' feature. You can try Iceraven which still has that feature and is based on Firefox? Good luck

@fatboy There are. I never realised that. There is the option 'browser.safebrowsing.blockedURIs.enabled' maybe set that to flase? I assume you'd have to change other options too. If things go wrong I think you can reset to the default. I'm no expert so do at own risk. I removed any entries I could find that have 'https' URLs.

@fatboy People don't seem to care. They know we have spyware but they ok with it. And that's how they like it. Gotta love human nature
